Yes. One duty of civilian leadership in war is to rally the population. Duplicity and deception are pwerful tools in this task, especially in a democracy. |

what difference would it make to a soldier if they were given the truth up front? Say "No"?
Every soldier signed on the dotted line, they volunteered. they gave up their rights as civilians to say, "no i'm not doing that."
as for the public not being given the truth, i hear what you're getting at. i don't agree with what's being done, but as a former military wife that makes my opinion nonexistent. it is what it is. i don't have to like it, but there wasn't a choice. |

It depends on the person mostly. Some people argue that the things we go to war for don't sum up to their reason for enlisting. Don't use someone else's excuse for fighting a war. We all make our own reasons and goals. Some fight for freedom, some fight for glory, for family, for the wife or girlfriend back home, and some of us fight because we're good at it... If you fight for your own truth, there's never any doubt and you can never be wrong. |
