Prove it. Do not lock the doors of your home, and advertise to everyone that you no longer lock your doors. See how long it would take for your home to be robbed. Even if you don't have much, someone would come and take whatever little you do have.

Although I'm a "Yank" this applies every bit as much to the UK as the US. Unfortunately we both have made, over the centuries(In y'alls case Melinnia) many enemies because of thier own reasons. Mostly, our way of life is different from thiers and therefore we must be "bad". Having a Military Force ensures that those who oppose us don't just march into downtown London or Washington and seat themselves firmly in power due to thier overwhelming...wait for it...Military power.
P.S. Yes the UK has value to others. Currently it has the most value in propaganda. Al Qaeda "Beating" the UK would be seen as a huge victory for them by many in the Arabic World and would draw both financial and sympathetic support for their misguided cause.

We tried not having armed forces remember, after ww1. Almost every country in the world greatly decreased the size of their armed forces and then the most catastrophic war in human history took place.

why do u thinkthe u.k. is not worth any thing to anyone, there are a lot of people trying to come here who i think would disagree. we need the millitary so that any joe soap cant take it from us, look at your history books, look at 1939.also look at anniejm,s answer, isn,t that a good enough reason.

i suspect your not a mr j clarkson (obviously) who is a massive fan of Britain and the armed forces.

why invade Britain? well 5 richest in the world (nearly fourth as we will overtake Germany in around 15 years apparently), home to the financial centre of the world - London and some of the most valuable and productive land. as well as 60 million potential slaves to work in our new overlords salt mines. it would never happen anyway - with the exception of a very serious case of American friendly fire.

Probably they are referring to constant bending over to accommodate everyone who complains. The one I still remember is the Muslims complaining about the piggy bank being given out by a bank. The bank, at that time, got rid if the piggy bank instead of standing their ground and telling them that while the pig may be offensive to them, it isn't to everyone. So rather than offer an alternative, they just bent over and took it.

You have farm land, factories, shipyards, housing, and people to use as slave labor. These are all things that you would be invaded for. And with no standing army, it would be mine for the taking. What you do? Yell, scream, beg? None of these actions would stop an invading military force.
