Why do so many people not support the troops?
|
I mean, you dont have to support any wars, or even the president, or politics, but I think EVERYONE should support and repect our men and woeman who continue to fight to the values and freedoms we have started to take for-granted. Am I crazy, or i the newer generations too wrapped up in video games, drugs, and technically advanced lifestyles to even kno about modern events, let alone care? Additional Details Sorry, I didnt mean to break it down into the younger demographic, nor say the majority doesnt support, my question should have been why does anyone not support the troops, alot do, which is awesome, but there are still alot who dont.
by the way, Im in the younger generation too, (22)

Huh? I must be napping. I've not seen anyone who does not support our troops. Now I've heard a lot of the National Socialist Broadcasters (all of whom managed to drum up draft deferments 40 years ago) make bogus claims on that front. |

I am in that younger generation and I love what the troops are doing. I stand behind them one hundred precent. If it was okay with my husband I would be standing there right a long with the men and women out there. He is in the military so that is the only reason why he doesn't want me to. |

Why do you think many people don't?
Aside from a few religious fanatics protesting at military funerals -- pretty much everyone supports the boots on the ground.
Questing or disagreeing with political decisions is entirely unrelated to respecting the people who follow those orders. |

You're off base! Everyone I know supports the troops. It's the bastich politicians everyone hates. The bastich politicians are running the war and they have it all F'd up. |

It is not that "The Younger Generation." of which I am a part of, doesn't know about what is going on.
It is that they look deeper than old conflicts and into the politics of the matter.
People 40+ lived their lives in the end of the Cold War where an Us against Them mentality ruled, and therefore if we won then they lost.
Now it is not so simple, if the US triumphs in Iraq, what has it gained, it hasn't made the world safer, in fact it did the oppisite, it hasn't made the people there happier. (Try invading a country in Africa and make ANY government there), so what do the troops there accomplish.
In other words, the "Younger Generation." Supports a worthy cause, not just any cause. No war that has happened since WWII has been even close to worthy. |

Most people do support the troops they don't support the war or the politicians. I think a lot of people, not just young people are too concerned with chasing material possessions to take and interest in current events.
Many people won't take an interest until it starts to directly effect them. They are only concerned with the short term future, much like your government, they are not concerned with the consequences of their actions or lack of action. |

"...is the newer generations too wrapped up in video games, drugs, and technically advanced lifestyles to even know about modern events, let alone care?" I think that's part of it. The newer generations watch "reality shows" and believe they're real. The know more about idiotic celebrities than they know about real life. They have zero foresight and 20/20 hindsight. They watch 25 minutes of commercials about drugs broken only by 5 minutes of news and think they have a grip on what's going on in the world. And they think they can bash the military's mission, the military's command structure, the country, and still think they're able to "support the troops." Yet very few of them are willing to join the military and really "support the troops" in a way that's meaningful. |

Because they weren't supporting them on or before September 10, 2001. We lost 7,500 active duty personnel to death between 1993 and 2001. No one gave a damn. We lost 9,555 active duty to death between 1980 and 1984 and no one gave a damn. Even when the nation went crazy with fund-raising for the survivors and loved ones after the attack on America, not one of those charity fund-raisers even made mention of any of the three military-base charities who took care of the needs of those loved ones and survivors from the attack on the Pentagon.
And I. for one, am totally fed up with the members of the "Petey Patriot Platoon" who try to rev up everyone's patriotism when it wasn't even evident among them on September 10, 2001. |

Mr Cody B, I thank you for your support as a soldier myself. It is very harsh though to assume that the troops don't get support as much as any other time in history. There is always those for the war and those against it. And as always, some that are against it don't know any other way to jeer than to down the troops. Most of the time though you find it is the idea and not the troops that they have the issue with. There are many out there that support us. Most for the right reasons and some because it is a good financial move. The only military person that isn't supported that much is the president. People seem to forget they wanted something done when 9/11 happened and he did something based off what he had at the time. Was it right or wrong...history will decide, but it would be nice if the public remembered it wasn't all him now that it didn't turn out all peachy. But enough preaching...thanks for your support and I hope this was of some interest to you |

Because there are too many people that don't care about the events, they just want to get ahead in the elections. Whether it be them themselves or their party. The Democrats are notorious for this. |

Most people I have talked to don't want a war like this one, but still are supporting of troops. My dad was in Vietnam and I don't think the people are acting the way they did in the late 60's early 70's. I was born ed when my dad was over there, but what I heard from some of the veterans is that the Americans treated them bad and would throw things at them, and boo them.
I feel that we are supporting our troops and are hoping for the best for our country. |

It's not that we dont support them, its a matter of "why are they dying for a cause that will neer be resolved??Its been going on since the days of "Christ",and will continue until our destruction. Our men, boys women, are all dying for NO reason now. |

allot of the "anti-war" people are more about being against Bush than the troops. By proxy the troops represent Bush so by hating them and hating what they stand for they show that they "hate Bush".
that's all it is. they are so enraged by one man they hate anything associated with him, his office, the people who work with him, who are in his party, that serve this country and even this country it's self.
They are so dedicated to hurting him they attack anything he may hold precious and place it under the guise of civil discontent.
Look at code pink, they attack anything having to do with the marines despite the fact they claim they only want peace... how is attacking the military a sign of loving peace? and when they go after the marines or the military what do they say? "We are attacking you because we disagree with Bush" or something along those same lines.
these people know they have nothing that affects Bush directly so they go after that which represents him.
These are sad little people who can not see how their selfish actions affect anyone because they only care about them selves and thier feelings. |

EVERYONE supports the troops, we just don't support the war. We don't feel our troops should be fighting and dying unnecessarily in a war that was built on lies and deceit....Our war is supposed to be against Al-Qaeda not Iraq, and Bush lied about the whole weapons of mass destruction so that he could finish off Saddam Hussein since Daddy Bush didn't do it when he was in office. |

I, personally, do not respect anyone who cannot think for themselves, and seeing how the military are not allowed to think for themselves, just take orders, they're as bad as robots. I'd rather a court-marshall than fire on inocent people! Just because they do what they are told doesn't mean they are good people.
What do you think about Hitler's soldiers? Were they doing the right thing slaughtering thousands of inocent people? I don't think so! |
