Because it is a very emotional thing to deal with. At the time it was easy and came naturally because I was defending my life and the lives of fellow Marines. Looking back on it and trying to talk about it to someone who does not understand what it is like to kill another living human being is extremely hard and not something i enjoy doing. War is not fun and it is not a game. |

Your showing your age.
Killing another human is not the same as killing someone on Xbox.
Grow up. |

It's a rude question.
Soldiers sent to battle fight. That's what they do. To ask if they have killed someone implies that they took it lightly, or are somehow proud of it. Only an insane person would enjoy that.
It is not a simple question. |

Do YOU think killing someone is a straight forward thing? No. |

My guess is than it must be hard to talk about it even though it is something they must do .... So leave them alone . many of them have to deal with PTSD also so i would try to understand than they must want to forget . plus i am sure than when u ask that question what comes to their mind is those which were not suppose to die but did anyways . try to be more respectful . |

My question is why do you need to know? Does it excite you? When you have done it, you'll know why it's so offensive.... |

If you killed another human being do you think it would be easy to talk about? especially if you saw the whites of there eyes?

Because it is honestly none of your business if they have or have not. Maybe they don't want to be called murderer or baby burner if they have. It is an idiotic question to ask of a military man unless you know then very well; to ask a stranger that is just rude and says you have an ax to grind or a position you want to spout. If a stranger walked up asked you "Have you molested any children today?" would you like that? It is a simple question with a simple answer. |

Maybe it's no big deal to you, but even when some SOB is shooting at you, it's STILL a human being on the other end of his weapon. Probably has a wife and kids. Probably has family. Sure, it's him or me and my buddies, but it's still a human being and taking a life is never easy.
It gets to you if you dwell on it. And if it doesn't, we really are not interested in having you serve with us. Someone like "Open your eyes' above would never make it through basic training; he'd fail the psych test and may not even make it TO basic training actually. That's a classic psychopathic attitude and has NO place in combat or carrying a weapon. I had a couple of troops like that and had them discharged as "Unfit for Military Service." |

It is a big deal and hard enough for them to deal with, even though they are serving their country, they have emotions and are dealing with great stress over taking another human life.
You are obviously not mature enough to understand this, so maybe you need to stay out of adult situations. |

It's uncomfortable to talk about with a civilian, nothing personnel to those who haven't served. I'm not ashamed of anything that I did while deployed, but it's still something that I don't openly share with people.
It's usually only discussed between fellow soldiers, especially ones that were in the same campaign. |

It could be that the question is very personal and that the subject hurts them. You get nightmares about.
Perhaps the soldier was in a hot area, they got ambushed, the unit fights the ambushers, a rocket launcher is on the ground and out comes some kid who was sent to retrieve if for the ambushers. Perhaps the soldier was forced to decide between shooting the kid or the rocket launcher being used by the insurgents.
What would you do? Would that mess you up for life? |

Being in a war zone is very hard on young men/women who have never really shot at anyone in anger or for self protection. Many of them do not like to remember what they may or may not have done. Don't ask them, because most of us have been raised with the idea to take another's life is wrong, so of course they don't want to talk about it! 3 of my close relatives were Marines, they each saw battle, I have never asked that question of them! |

Well, let me ask you this. What if you knowingly killed someone and someone causually comes up to you and asks you "have you killed anyone" how would you react? If you act causual, say yes, shrug it off, then you sir are a sociopath. |

Have you ever seen some one freshly killed? It's not pretty. After a trip to the morgue, you might change your thinking. It would be like me asking you, do you still beat your wife? Implying that at one time you did. It's not one of those things you ask. Respect us and those who have gone before. |

There are MANY parts of war that shouldn't be asked.
The military person should be the one that brings up those topics... NOT someone that doesnt understand the "big deal".
Watch Saving Private Ryan. Think of what those people went thru. Think of how they were mentally scarred. No one wants to kill someone else. If they do, they dont belong in the military. You kill because you know that your safety, or your military counterparts, or your families back at home are in danger! |

It is none of your business if they killed anybody or not.
Taking a life is not some video game. It is real, the life ends, no reset, no extra lives, just dead.
It is a simple question, the simple answer is: It is none of your business. |
