I had my wavier approved couple weeks back, had to get one for RE3 code but it took nearly two months, after submission, not to mention the waiting on holidays too! All together 4 months. I understand from Nov-early Jan, but seriously Jan-March was insane crazy waiting! Why so long?!?

The process takes a bit as it has to go through several different hands for approval, disapproval in several different locations. |

When you get a waiver for enlistment it means you DO NOT QUALIFY TO ENLIST..
So it takes time to be reviewed to ensure they want to give you a chance. You are NOT a priority since there are many people who do not need waivers.
I suggest you get used to waiting. |

Because of who has to sign the waiver. Thousands of people are trying to get in and it might be one man who is the approving authority for the level of waiver you are trying to get. |

That sure is a broad question, given the things that require waivers in the military. But I want best answer so I will try to vent your frustration: Because the military is such a bureaucratic institution, and everything has to go through miles of red tape only to be looked over by a senior NCO and turned back or forgotten about, finally making it to a commander's desk, where they are afraid to sign it until they have the full story on said waiver which has by now of course been forgotten about....It goes on and on but we basically have a lot of rules that at one time supposed to be helpful and provide checks and balances, but we are now constricted and have to do five times as much work as Officers and NCO's to get the same amount done. |

Because there is one surgeon general per branch and probably 100s of waivers ahead of yours to get approved. |

Because each case has to be approved at varying levels of authority. Medical waivers require very specialized attention. Many moral waivers require the attention of very high ranking people. Aside from the massive number of requests in proportion to the few positions granted, the fact that recruiting qualified people right now is going so well, there's no incentive to rush on waivers. |
