Why do we go to war when only 3000 people died on 9/11?
Find answers to your legal question.

Why do we go to war when only 3000 people died on 9/11?

We are spending billions and billions of dollars every month for those that died on 9/11.

I understand if the terrorists has killed 100 million people here but they didnt! ONLY 3000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's less than people dying from food poisoning! Where are our priorities?

You think those people died on 9/11 care about us avenging them? They don't. You know why? Because their dead!

Agree?

I understand that you don't have any sense of national patriotism but let me answer your question with a question.

If only one person had died in the 911 attack....... and it was your parent, spouse, sister, brother, your child. Would you want revenge?

If you say "NO" you then you aren't much of anything.

toms1266
I disagree. An attack on American soil that kills Americans deserves the highest appropriate military response. In my opinion, Afghanistan deserved to be glassed.

What would you have done if it was 50 million? How about 200 thousand? How about 10,000?
Fact is, the 'billions and billions' are the reason we haven't been attacked since 9-11.

Leave national security to the adults.

You aren't really a plumber, are you?

A book could be written about your lack of understanding concerning the reasons we did go to war, based on your assumption that we only went for revenge of the victims of 9/11.

No, I don't agree, I lost my cousin on 9/11 in the World Trade Center. If all 3000 of those people were black and targeted would that make it more of a reason to go to war for you. You obviously don't live in the northeast because if you did, you would know at least one person who at least knew someone who died that day for no reason. The men and women fighting for us today and that have given up their lives for the sake of this country are proud to do so. The people that went to work that day could have been your mother, father, wife, daughter, son...what would you want done then smart guy?

Guess you never lost anyone due the violence of others.

It isn't like 9/11 was the first time we were attacked by terrorists. I didn't/ don't agree to why Iraq started, but I do over Afghanistan. How many times could someone punch you in the face before you had enough?

mustangsally76
ONLY..ONLY??!!!! One death at the hand of a terrorist is one too many. You may think that 3000 lives is worth nothing....I think that those lives lost should not be in vain. I mourn every life lost on 9/11 and every life lost during this war.

I CARE

My husband has deployed 8 times between Iraq and Afghanistan. He deploys for the 9th time in January. He sees first hand what we are battling and what we are accomplishing. YOU need to get out more.

WHAT IS YOUR LIFE WORTH?

We'll go to war over one.

An attack on American soil HAS to be answered every time.

Now if our stupid President had only answered the right country...

Terrorist have killed more that 3000 people. The United States isn't the only country victim to terrorism. The amount of deaths from terrorism is well over 1 million. Do some research idiot.

So you think we should have a set number of deaths in order to be able to go to war? Even if nobody was killed, thats still enough reason to go to war after what happened. And were not at war to avenge the 9/11 attacks, were their to prevent another tragedy form occurring.

Because they attacked us and that what happens in war.

blinkx928
This should be reported for its mere absurdity.

ONLY 3000? Grow up. You are a disrespectful P.O.S.

If it was your family inside the top floors of those buildings that 3,000 would seem like a big number to you.

And they don't care about you "avenging" them because they're dead? You're pathetic. Get some respect for those who have fallen.

Variable 46
I don't think you'd be so blase about those who died if you'd been married to one of them, or one of them was your child. You really should have a little more sensitivity.

Why go to war? Well, the sad human reality is, when a bully shoves you, you shove back. If you don't, you get shoved again, and again and again. And if someone murders your wife or child, you don't say, "Well, it'd sure cost a lot more than their life was worth to track them down and bring the killer to justice, so we'll just let it go." If you tolerate injustice, injustice will be visited on you over and over and over again. Maybe next time it WILL be your spouse and child, and you won't be so cavalier about it.

There's irony here in your viewpoint that those lives lost have a net monetary value, and that life can thus be calculated to a set figure. That's a dangerous viewpoint, because you know what? Somewhere someone is saying, "The money we're spending on preventing food poisoning (or curing A.I.D.S. or preventing cancer or looking for kidnapped children) isn't really worth the number of lives we save." Is that someplace you want to go?

Now having said all that, though, I will say this: I think the war in Iraq was a terrible mistake, a wasted battle and opportunity in this War on Terrorism, that should have never taken place. It has cost way too much in American, Allied and noncombatant lives, not to mention money and prestige, and I don't think it should have ever been fought. Not only Bush, but every Republican AND Democrat who voted to authorize this should be made to personally seek out and apologize to every family of every victim...a monumental task but no less than the price they should have to pay for either making or going along with such a disastrous decision.

But to simply dismiss those lives lost on 9/11 would be more than a mistake, it would be a moral failing.

Phillies Fan Forever
Only 3000! Only 9/11! Terrorists attacked us by invading planes into our buildings, our country. They attack us, we attack back. 3000 inoccent people died, it was a traic day, something our country thought was worth fighting for.

Jullie
ONLY 3000! What do you mean ONLY 3000? We're talking about people you know....moms, dads, brothers, sisters, etc. that all died. You're making it sound like "it's no big deal".

Get a life.

it doesn't matter how many died, it matters that they attacked us for no good reason and we thought it was time or some payback

The war is less about 9/11 than it is about $$. It is my opinion that 9/11 is used to cover up a 'bigger picture' (once again, $$) in order for the American people to 'buy into' the war.

I, along with Michael Moore, believe that we should reinstitute the draft and send all of the children of oil company CEOs and major stockholders, in addition to children of our elected officals to the front lines. Hey, let's get Chelsea and the Bush twins out there ASAP! You'd see the war end quick, fast and in a hurry. Thank you.

because if we didnt respond, then it could get worse. i think i would prefer them take action than sit back and let another country bomb us and kill our people. I'm not pro-war either, but its understandable as to why we fought back.

gotta love it

I think you are just a Troll trying to get a rise out of people. Nonetheless, I will answer you.

It was very important for us to take action after 9/11. This does not mean it was a wise choice to invade a country that had NOTHING to do with 9/11.

This Nation was attacked. One of our priorities should always be the defense of our Nation. You say "ONLY 3000".

ljk147
please do not say ONLY 3000 people died. that is some ones family.. or friend. you cannot rank a tragedy based on the amount of life lost. all life is precious.

second.. the war in iraq is not for those that died on 9/11.. it is not to avenge them either. it is against "terrorism". the majority of people involved in the 9/11 attack were from saudi arabia.. and we aren't there fighting against them.

i have no comments on the war and it's justification.. but check your facts.. and have a little sympathy for those that have lost a loved one. what if that was your parent, sibling, or friend that was one of "only" 3000?

Army RN
I agree with several things above, ESPECIALLY about Afghanistan being glassed; I swear I've said that a dozen times myself, and still don't think it's a necessarily bad idea (I know, I know, a Nurse that thinks we should drop the bomb, hey I can't help it, I was a Soldier first:)
Also about you being a troll, the probability is pretty high here.
However, I have asked myself this question when I looked at the death toll in Iraq rising and rising. "When are we going to quit ******* around over there and just bomb the **** out of them and be done with it?" Truth is that it is so incredibly complicated now, we can't look back and say "Why did we do it?" We have to look forward and say "How do we fix it?" Honestly, and I know I'm gonna get some hate for this, but we need to win back some friends and get their help in Iraq so that we can concentrate on the Taliban. Look forward my friends, we can't do it all by ourselves, and we never could.

Richard_SM
Exactly.

Both invasions into Iraq and Afghanistan were planned BEFORE 9/11 even occurred.

America brought 9/11 on themselves through their mistreatment of Muslims in 1990's. It's no wonder they fought back.

You know, al Qaeda were nothing more than a criminal gang of 400-500 holed up in Afghanistan.

Starting a full blown war in Afghanisatan was crazy. Would we have started a war in Italy to hunt down the Mafia. Would we have bombed Rome and Naples??

Bush was stupid to start these wars.

The only winner has been al Qaeda.

And you're right about getting it in proportion. More Americans commit suicide each year, saving al Qaeda the trouble, than the 3000 killed in 9/11.

Yet you don't hear these people who support the actions after 9/11 trying to do anything about the suicides. They don't even speak up. They just like to complain about Iraq and Afgjanistan and al Qaeda - and play armchair Generals

pay it forward
The movie "W" shows one view of what happened...I saw something on TV that showed that Bush was actually friends with the wealthy princes who wanted to take over countries...so Haliburton which is a type of contruction co. & Bin Laden who also made his fortune from construction have got together to create this situation 911 so we would go to war so they could rebuild different places in the world & charge the countries but they also put the bill on the American tax payer so the time when McCain sang about bombing Iran was him showing he was a dumb criminal who didn't know when to keep his mouth shut & he then made a comment about keeping the troops out there & he listed the places he planned on sending them to next if he became Pres...I have not see one thing to contradict this...Bush & Cheney wanted to go to war so bad...I wish they experts would look at the smile behind Bush's eyes when he used to talk about the war...he only changed about a year ago when people started commenting on his smirk.

It's not only 9/11, but that was the "excuse" to go into Iraq. Cheney and Rumsfeld were planning the invasion of Iraq long before 9/11.
