Why do you let your goverement send your sons to war?

Uh, the US abolished the draft in the 1970s. Anyone in the military now is there by choice.

I don't agree with the war at all, but no one can claim they didn't know that joining the military might mean going to war someday.

I guess that some go to war to keep the protected folks fat, happy, and free.

To those that have fought for it, freedom has a flavor that the protected shall never know!!

in case you don't remember...the armed services is "VOLUNTEER"....EVEN THO THE DEMS WANT IT TO BE THE DRAFT.... the sons and daughters who join do it with a free will...study up son!

JUNK MAN
When a mothers son becomes a MAN, he should make his own decisions. The mother should only offer advise. The man must live his life with out interference from any relative. It's the men of this world that have given us the freedoms we all take for granted. I'm sick and tired of lessening to people complain from there warm safe homes in America. Praise your men mothers and be proud if your son stands up and says today I am a man and my life will be one of a warrior and not a wimp.

Because otherwise there is not point to a military, and we wont get paid.

Seeker?
The government doesn't send them, America has an ALL VOLUNTEER military.
Know your facts.

Those sons you are talking about joined the military on their own. They made the sacrifice when they signed their contract.

Since WWII, Military service has been voluntary. Once sworn into the military, one is under the orders of the Commander in Chief. That title includes any and every president regardless of political party. Imprisonment is one penalty for disobeying an order by the Commander in Chief.

My children, when they are old enough to serve, will have that decision to make for themselves. Since it is (as pointed out by a number of answers here) a volunteer force.

In this case, I fully support the mission, and would be proud to have a son (or daughter) that served.

We may not like what our government does. And sons, daughters, husbands, wives, fathers, or mothers. THIS IS A VOLUNTEER Service ALL THE WAY AROUND.
Most of the service members would say it is an honor to serve their country. Even when they are away from everyone and everything they love. Even when they work 365 days a year 24 hours a day. Yes they get some time off and days off, but if duty calls for whatever the reason they must go.
And they go so people can do just this and state their opinions and ask questions just like this.
So the next time you see a service member instead of asking such a ridiculous question, thank them, shake their hand and look them in the eye. And realize without them you wouldn't have these freedoms. Be it them personally or the "them" from past services. The branches of service have been around for ever and with out them freedom wouldn't be anywhere.

You have to make your choise when you vote. You vote for the person that you trust to make the right decisions, but frankly there are times when a war cannot be helped if we are to defend ourselves or our alies.
The second answer to your question is " why not your son ".

philbertpheinstein
Smarter parents don't.

crusinthru
as others have said they made the choice to join the military knowing they might be asked to defend our country or others freedoms. Why do you think it's so bad to die for freedom but don't say anything when gang bangers kill each other around the U.S. at a much higher rate for a lot stupider reasons. Here's a stat for you, you are more likely to die if you are the unborn fetus in the belly of an underage teen while in the waiting room of a planned parenthood office then you are as a soldier in Iraq.

I have six (6) sons and let me tell you something Mr. Smartass. Two of them joined the military (one Army and one Air Force) and another son and my daughter joined the Guard. I never heard my wife even discuss it other then like me, we were both proud of our only daughter and three sons volunteering as their father did before them to serve this great country of ours. They decided what lives they wanted to live we didn't. A fourth son attempted to join the Marines but he recruiter taught him the wrong test and he failed. We were also proud of him with his choice and his disappointment not being able to serve. One of my four sons retired from the military about three years ago and you better believe, both my wife and myself were damned proud of it.
By the way.... I just happen to be a retired military man myself serving my country for over 20 years and served during both Korean and VietNam wars. We did it for people like you who can speak freely in this free country that we gave our all for. Now that I've spoke my free choice may I ask you this? Just what have you done to protect We the People of these United States of America?

Frankly the govenment doesn't always listen to the little people down under. Once they get up there in the fish bowl they tend to forget who they are and where they come from. Thats why we have elections.

they pay for their education too...yes, i know that isn't a good reason, but they do.

Snowy
Because by the time our sons and daughters join the armed forces they are adults and make their own choices.

I also think that mine are intelligent enough to understand that if you join an organisation where you will be trained to kill people and carry a gun, then there is an expectation that the government will one day ask you to earn your pay and go and do it.

We don't. The US military is voluntary.

Oh don't underestimate soldiers by saying "they knew it might mean going to war some day" when they signed up for the military. Anybody that's joined since 9/11 KNEW it would mean going to war & were volunteering to go.

I don't know what's going to happen to us in the future. In past generations, when we didn't have such a great technological advantage, the whole country would have to mobilize for war (like WWII). When those people came back they were tough & understood what it meant to sacrifice & defend your country. Today, it takes such a small percentage of society to defend the rest of you, hence everyone else takes it for granted. Oh you talk about how great the troops are sure, but you aren't ready to serve or sacrifice for anything, no matter what happens to the rest of the world. A little blood now saves a lot more later. So re-damn-lax & quit complaining about something that doesn't effect you unless it is you or your family standing the line.

In answer to your question, if my kids are interested in the military I'll encourage & support them as I would any worthy interest or goal. I have served & have many friends that continue to serve in combat. There is no "LET" there is only following orders. People don't like getting shot at, but the casality rates are low (your chances to come back w/o a scratch are very good) & they believe in the mission even if the rest of you back here don't get it. Their biggest complaint is being away from their families for so long, and that's no reason to surrender in wartime.

My son is a Marines with the 2/2 fox co ( Warlords ) and was sent to Iraq but believe me it was the worst time of my life and any mom can tell you that it was not our choice, But we backed our sons 110%. No one knows the pain you live in every day unless your son was there. I was scared to death. "I'm still scared even though I know my son will never return to Iraq due to injuries he received there by a pig scum coward who drove a car full of bombs". But I'm scared for the moms who has and is living with a son that is there or going.
I know lots of people are against this war and they have a right to feel anyway they want but they should respect the men and women that are fighting and respect their family's cause they don't know how they feel unless they walk in their shoes.
And it breaks my heart when I see people on here put down Military people cause you never know if a person is reading this who had lost a love one over there.
So I'm asking everyone who reads this to try and have some respect for our Military and their family's.

why you let your sons joined the army ?? if you are a good parent, you will be able to tell your sons that by joining the army, he will be subject to government's policies and will be deployed anywhere in the world for war or peace keeping ....he who handle weapons will also be most likely killed by weapons....unless the government is forcefully dragging your sons to join the army, you can't blame them....

My cousin signed on with the Marines two years ago right out of High School. He wants to be there(Iraq). The late Pat Tillman(rest in peace brother) signed on with the Army after 9/11. These two are true Americans. They both have more honor and pride for thier country than alot of people belly aching here. So stop trying to convince others that our soldiers are being forced to be there.

government doesn't send sons to war, ther is no draft.
