Why does McCain seem to always vote against veteran's benefits and rights?

Because for McCain, the veterans had served their purpose. Now that these veterans are now useless in McCain's eyes, he discarded them and refuse to spend for their care.

If McCain discarded his own disabled first-wife because she became useless to him, then what more for the veterans?.

More to it than that buddy. Any time he has voted against Veterans Benefits is when it wasn't good enough or there was unnecessary pork in it. Just looking at a voting record is not good enough.

I don't think that you can actually ask anyone other than McCain that question. Try going to his website, and see if it lists anything regarding his views on veterans' benefits. If it doesn't, see if it has any sort of chat or blog option to ask that question.

P.S. I hope you are really wanting to know, and not just using this site as a place for you to vent against McCain. I'm really trying to help you find the answer.

It is hard to determine a persons intent by the bills he votes for or against. Often times bills have a certain title like "Veterans Rights" but within it there is very little veterans rights and lots of money earmarked for other things like roads in Wyoming or a bridge in Main. He is for vet's rights and benefits but not at the cost of these other activities that get passed under disguise. If you actually read a bill you'll be amazed at how much these politicians sneak in other things. Its really quite disgusting actually.

those bills were probably tagged onto a 10 billion dollar welfare increase proposed by the Democrats. I would have to read the entire bill before I passed judgment.

I have no clue but that is one of the reason's why I am not voting for him. I need my GI bill and my disability I get from Vet's affairs. I don't know why he would vote against it since he is a vet himself.

But that is how you support the troops. You cut funding for military hospitals so our wounded troops lie in their own poo at Walter Reed Hospital which incidentally was cutting edge top of the whole world when those crazy Democrats ran things and didn't support our troops. And McCain gets something like a 100% disability rating when vets I know who literally had their brains blown partially out get about 50%, and they can't even walk. But he is a Republican, he is better than everybody else, and that is how you support the troops if you are a Republican: everything for the rich, scraps (if anything) for the poor and the middle class. Cute, isn't it?

Why spread lies and half truths? Go back and read the bills and what pork was attached to those bills!

Well, if you are in a political party, you are expected to vote the party line. There are offices in Congress set up by each party called Whips. Their job is to convince people in the party to vote the party line.

In general, Republicans perceive government benefits as 'handouts', not as benefits to those who have paid their dues. McCain would risk seniority and committee memberships if he did not vote the party line, and campaign the party talk, most of the time.

I believe it is incumbent on us as Americans to call for a Constitutional Convention and draw some lines that cannot be crossed. For example, the Second Amendment is currently interpreted for the benefit of individuals, but there have been times when it has been interpreted as the right of States to form militias or National Guards. Amending that amendment to mean both explicitly would be a good thing if that is what Americans want. And an obligation or debt to those who have protected this country or served it in nonsense wars should be in there as well.

I am still on active duty and am a veteran of the war. Between the two candidates i believe we will be forgotten in favor of welfare programs, banks needing loans and universal health care issues.

Vets were forgotten, even discarded so to speak, during the Clinton years. The military got few pay raises and Clinton shrunk our ranks while decommissioning vessels and armor.

when the bills are writting there are tons of other things in there not just veterans rights..could be the 9 million in pork obama has gotten in his time in the senate while mccain has asked and taken none....a bill doesnt just go thru with veterans rights there are lots of other things attached..you realize this right
