Why does everyone assume that the British sailors are telling the truth?

Not with regards to whether they were in Iranian waters or not, but with their treatment.

I mean, lets say you folded like a pack of cards (like they did), surely upon your arrival back in the UK you may be tempted to 'embellish' the things you had to endure to make it sound more reasonable about the sort of torture you went through before you 'sang like a canary'

Im not saying they didnt go through some bad stuff, but it was hardly hanging by your fingernails stuff, and when you consider that you know any trauma they went through they would have 'added to it'. it doesnt exactly sound like they had been the bravest of sailors.

And to top it off the female of the group is going to be over £100,000 richer. Nice little earner for her isnt it.

Honestly these sailors make me sick, and thank god I cant get thumbs down on this question, because I know lots of you would be defending them even though they didnt show an ounce of bravery

I try not to "assume" anything. I do try to find as much information about a subject that I can PRIOR to making an hard opinion.

The fact that the sailors and marines did come out so quickly to make statements that placated the Irainians is a possible indicator that some sort of harsh mental abuse may have happened. Then again, it could just be that they were scared out of their minds and were willing to fold quickly in te hope of being released.

Do I think Iran would lie? Of course! Do I think te brits would lie? Absolutely! Do I know who is telling the truth? Yep! None of them! Do I know what really happened? Not yet!

I think it strange their story changed so MUCH, the reason the MOD has allowed them to sell their story alone, reeks of danger. Check out this video, dont they seem relaxed and happy after their release but BEFORE their debrief by the UK Military, notice in the second part of the Video the same guy is reading from a scripted card and looks VERY morose

Because I assume an Allied Military Officer would tell the truth unless I am shown DIRECT evidence that they had lied.

Also as a SERE School graduate (1986) I understand the treatment that goes with capture.

The Officers showed QUITE abit of bravery, courage, and common-sense... not getting into a fire-fight (massacre) with a FAR better armed force. Cooperate and inform.

Regarding your comments of the behavior of the female sailor... I hope YOUR mother/sister/daughter is captured by such fine folks and gets a TASTE of what happens to females POW's

Because unless someone has given me a reason to doubt them, I believe them? These are individuals. If some details change or some other reason to suspect them will arise, I may then suspect we did not hear the truth.
Be cool, might as well expect people to bash you rather than make their point. I mean, thats how a lot of people prove they are right, whoever is more insulting wins.
I understand you are suspicious because of the money involved for their stories, or sudden popularity. That happens with a lot of people outside the war though also. You have the right to suspect them. I just feel, more inclined to believe an ally over someone who takes positions contrary to mine.

I didn't see the name of DAVE S on the list of captured Sailors. Because you were home wanking while they did their jobs. How dare you come up with this garbage? I am in the US and I am totally against the war, but I still support the hero's who have been sent into harms way. You only have to worry about locking your bedroom door or a short in your computer.

I heard an interview with British columnist Mark Steyn the other day. He made a very good point, namely that British marines / sailors are trained to "take it" as a condition to them reaching the esteemed title of royal marine or whatever it's called. He thought they folded way too early, the iranian savages got everything they wanted and it's probably just a matter of time before the savages take more hostages.
