Why doesn't Cindy Sheehan respect her son's decision to go into the military?

What did she think he was going to be doing? Basket weaving?

I do not know the whole story. But I would imagine she is upset (as any mother would be) that her son is dead. She is mad and needs someone (anyone) to blame. She may not have liked her son going into the military. But as an adult he can do what he wants. Unforunately she is not honoring his life or memory by what she is doing. I can only imagine her grief but she needs to pull out of it for the sake of her remaining kids.

I think she did, she didn't respect Bush's decision to send him to fight a war on bad evidence.

if someone gets killed by a drunk driver, and the parents protest against drunk driving, do you say "Why don't you support your child's right to drive?"

whilst I do NOT agree with what she did [and yep heard she is giving up the fight as well] as a MUM I can sort of see her point............YES we bloody know that there is a fair chance they will go to places of danger or can / might get hurt just in the basic line of duty BUT maybe like all us other mums we sort of work on the thought of NOT OUR SON..............well at least I do and I had to sign for my son to join due to his age. That was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, was sign him away with the FULL knowledge that he has a reasonable chance of getting hurt but this is what my son wanted..................

Hoping ALL the sons [fathers brothers daughters can come home safe and sound SOON]

If the story is correct, she wasn't even living with her family when he enlisted.

jose
she is nuts

How would she get on TV then?

Her son RE-ENLISTED after the Iraq war started. He was proud of his service, as are the rest of his family.

She used his death to gain the media spotlight without regard for him, his service or his wishes.

As I said in the other post, I'm glad my family understands that such stupidity and dishonor are not an option.

Who?

A mother's anger over the loss of a child can make her blind to why they died and how. He died fighting for something he believed in and for her and the rest of the country. She was so hurt and angry that she could not see how much pain she was causing others. Yes she gave up, maybe she was just tired. Maybe the pain subsided...a little.

Lisa E
Did you read that she's no longer protesting? She's given up the fight.

Miss Meg
she just wants money from the govt....you know she didnt even raise her son??

unless you have a son that has died in this madness called Iraq, you really shouldn't be commenting on Cindy Sheehan or her motives.

Milmom
I feel bad for all the Marine, Army etc Moms that didn't capitalize on their son/daughters deaths, didn't take the insurance money to make a big public outcry about something their children signed and was explicitly told that they were in the Service to die for their country, and actually they get that fact.
Whether anyone agrees with the war or not. Her son was in the military doing a military job and that's exactly what he signed up for.

yadayadayada
No mother ever expects this to happen, but it does..She knew he was in a very dangerous situation and he made a decision to do so. I only hope you never have to mourn a child. This is a pathetic question, and I feel sorry for any mother of military men/women lost due to war. You must have a heart of stone! Good luck you will need it in life!

BY the way is this you George??

maybe she does not understand how he feeld about him going to the military, she is maybe scaryed that she won't see him again being so far away. she is a mother, mothers do that.

what did he die for?

She's too angry to stop and think about anyone else's perspective. I find it rather immature in a woman of her age.

oh please! It isn't so much a matter of her "respect'[ing] her son's decision. I'm certain she respects her son as much now as before he died. Think! She just wanted to know what he had died for. And to tell the truth, so do I! Everyone doesn't play into the Bush cronies fake 'patriotism' nonsense.

Nobody thinks that one of their family members are going to be killed in war.

When you compound that problem by lying about the reasons to start said war and then see how terribly mismanaged this war is, it would definitely drive parents to the point where they want to protest it at the expense of everything else in their lives.

She's doing what any parent would do if their child was killed needlessly.

Can you really imagine losing a member of your family in this war and not be extremely angry?

BJ
You know, this is the second one of your trash posts concerning Ms. Sheehan and her dead son.

I think you are an insensitive clod and until you have lost someone close to you in war, you need to back off and grow up.

If you are so hyped on the war - why don't you enlist - if you're old enough.. I hear they are taking everyone today in the Army, even the mentally challenged.
