Why don't we set a date to leave Iraq?
|
And if, as many on the pro-war side suggest, the opposing forces sit back and wait for us to leave, we can use that lull in fighting to ramp up our efforts to train the Iraqis to fend for themselves. Then, when that date arrives, we could delay our departure if we need to.
Let me say I am in full support of our troops. When you respond, please don't call me names and curse at me. Think it through, give a coherent response and check your work before turning it in. Additional Details Then what is the job? Finding WMDs, no, that's no longer our reasoning. Regime change, ok. Mission accomplished. We toppled the staute, found Sadam and he is on trial. Bringing them freedom? The Iraqis voted several times. What is our goal now. It's time to tell us why we are there without talking down to us. The real reason and our real objective.

War is too complex to schedule it. There is no predicting what guerillas will do.
We could set goals, but that will never happen because if you don't reach those goals, generals and politicians will look like a bunch of idiots. Nevermind that they actually ARE a bunch of idiots. It's all about appearances, don't you know! |

It was never policy to give up an economic asset like the oil fields once we finally found an excuse to take control. To return control of IRAQ over to anyone else would betray America's new foreign policy as set by PRESIDENT BUSH.'We will do whatever we want, when we want and there is nothing anyone can do about it". |

If we did set a date, that would be light at the end of the tunnel for the insurgency, as well as the perception of failure if we cannot meet such a date. These factors would give psychological advantages to our enemies.
I am not "pro-war" but we are up against a very serious enemy, (not just those in Iraq), who if left unhindered would grow in strength and be more capable of doing us harm at home and abroad as they already have. This war is about keeping them off balance and localized. There is no quick & easy solution, and for us to just return to the US & let the wound fester would just be to invite a bigger problem down the road. Like it or not, radical Islam has declared war on the US and most of the civilized world. |

The problem with picking a date at random (and whatever you may hear, the date would be arbitrary) is that the Iraqis may not be able to take over the mission of policing their own country by then. Which is why it would be a far better idea to pick a set of criteria to meet before we pull troops out. Set up realistic goals and when those are met, we leave. |

I suppose the same reason we did not set a deadline for wiping the KKK terror campaign out of the South in the 50s and 60s or we have not set a deadline for the end of expenditures for AIDS research.
If the job is worth doing, the job is worth seeing to its conslusion.
Whether the Iraq war is "worth it" is another issue.
PS Why are we there?

If you were the enemy, wouldn't you want to know when your opponent was leaving?
The lull that would be created by this would give the insurgents time to train, recruit and plan. We are doing all of those things with with the Iraquis now.
Look at what happened in Viet Nam. We had an extremely loose treaty with the Viet Cong. They sat back, reinforced their armies and waited for us to leave. In very short time they invaded and crushed an extremely demoralized South Vietnam Army.
Those that fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it. |

Think about it.
Anything you do this the enemy just sits back and stockpiles weapons - then attacks they after you leave.
Look what happened in Vietnam. The war ended in 1972 and N. Vietnam invaded in 1975. |

Bush has stated that the troops won't be withdrawn until 2009! That is awfully convenient for him as he won't be president!
The troops are targets caught in a civil war and dodging Radical Islam!
We had no business being there in the first place! All we have done is destabilize the region and hand the power to Iran!
One-half TRILLION dollars and 2.807 military killed is way to great a price for 3 Million barrels of oil a year!! And who knows what the current regime is going to do. They don't like us either!
Get them OUT!!
What do you know about dying for nothing Generation X.? Ever been in combat?? What do you think they died for? I'll tell you, Absolutely NOTHING! |

The job may not be done in time and if the US and its allies leave without the job complete all those men died for nothing |

Well u know u shouldn't be there from the beginning! Your president acts differently then what he says. He wanted to the Iraqis to live in a democratoic country, beleive it or not, the civil war now in Iraq is only because the USA invaded Iraq. Second, your country always go around asking for a new middle east!! No one wants her help u know why? Because a new middle east shuld be equal to all the Arabs and i livein the middle east and i know that it is not equal! USA invaded Iraq only for the oil. Now since USA wanted a democratic country why shuld it be the one to decide who does what?!? I Llive in war now and beleive me everything u see on tv or on the news is totally the oppossite of reality!! I feel sorry for all the soldiers that are dying in Iraq, and many to go still in every Arab country they invad.. Only because of terrorism!?! did any of you wonder what happened to Bin Laden? where is he? they couldn't cought him!!! i mean all this technology... Think twice.. your president goes to war for the sake of gaining more power only whereby innocents are dying, americans, arabs, and most of the UN military..
So no date to leave Iraq because what is happening now was not predicted! |

Setting a date for ending a war is like telling the Press a secret.
It's a bad thing for a government can do and it's a great way to get a lot of soldiers killed.
The best way to handle this is to finish the war when the enemy is defeated and things are cleared up. Then go home. |
