Why don't women have to register for selective service?
|
For the past 200 years women have been fighting for equal right, but when it comes to selective service they have not said a word. I say that if they don't start fighting for that their rights should be taken away. If you want to be treated equally you better be ready to accept all of the responsibilities. Additional Details Whoever said that we don't have a draft is an imbecile. The draft is just not active now. It is still legally possible and probable

Some women are fit for the military, a lot of women simply aren't. Men are generally more fit for the military. |

If you look, you'll find that it's mostly political and senior military people who are against this. Americans don't have the stomach to send their daughters to die in war. |

It is not that feminists have not spoken up. The Congress (mostly men) have strongly resisted equality in Selective Service and many other areas of life.
These old dinosaurs will go away soon.
There is little focus on Selective Service when the President has not implemented the draft. |

The issue of women being exempted was addressed and approved in 1981 by the United States Supreme Court in Rostker v. Goldberg, with the Court holding "The existence of the combat restrictions clearly indicates the basis for Congress' decision to exempt women from registration. The purpose of registration was to prepare for a draft of combat troops. Since women are excluded from combat, Congress concluded that they would not be needed in the event of a draft, and therefore decided not to register them."[21] However since the draft has always been used to conscript non-combat personnel as well; and likewise ninety percent of military jobs are non-combat positions, many of which are open to female volunteers; this calls into question why women cannot be drafted into such positions.
Some factions of contemporary feminists and Men's Rights activists have advocated that as women have sought and established in large degree equal opportunity to acquire and utilize all benefits of society and resources therein without discrimination up and to including monetary resources as direct benefactors of the sovereign territory of the United States, they should be allowed, and indeed required, to assume responsibility to be called upon to defend such benefits in any capacity best suited for and as seen required—up and to including a full combat role if needed.
It is likewise stated that since women are likewise now able to vote for wars in which only men can be required to fight, then—particularly since women comprise the voting-majority—then an exception for women thereby elevates women, both as individuals and as a group, to an elite and special social status above men, since they have equal rights as citizens, but without equal duties being required of them in return for such; likewise, men are conversely forced into an inferior status as women's expendable servants—even slaves, since they are expected to fight to defend these very rights, that women are able to claim without similar requirement. |

So what do you say to all of the females in the military? The selective service is an archaic program. There will never be another draft. Signing up with the selective service is no longer an issue. The whole program will be forgot about soon enough. |

Right now i believe that women should be part of the draft. I think that if women want to have equal rights they shouldn't get the benefits without the tough parts too. The official reasons are basically the same reasons why women aren't allowed in combat situations.
Scientifically women aren't as strong as men. In the field you may be required to cary up to 300 pounds in gear. Most women could not do this. Men would also feel more of a need to defend the women naturally because that is part of the male instinct. This tendency to defend could jeopardize the mission and if the female were killed in battle it would affect morale much more than it would if a male were killed. I do think that women should be part of the draft, but not all parts. Certain positions, such as sniping, which women have proven again and again to be better at than men, are areas in which women should be posted. Therefore, women should be included in the draft, the only difference would be that when the call comes to go to war, women would need to, but be limited in their position. |

women who are in the military cant fight, many women want to but are restricted in the type of jobs they can do....the problem isnt with the women its with the people who makes the law, they are the one stopping it, if you have an issue with the law then take it up with your goverment.
there is also a simple fact that women are generally if not always physically weaker, we cant be expected to be 100% equal in all things, dosnt make us any less then men, just means our bodies are made differently |

Woman are not subject to being drafted, should there be a draft. Compulsory service is only a male thing under current federal law. Therefore, it wouldn't make sense to have them sign-up for selective service. |
