Because then if we are attacked we have no means of defending ourselves. Because disbanding the military and getting rid of our weapons leaves us at the mercy of anyone and everyone. And because it will show our nation as incompetent.

If we disband the military, who's gonna be sent out to help people in natural disasters within our own country? Who do you think is out there helping with all the floods? A large portion of the "volunteers" are military members. The military does a lot more than fight wars. Just because you don't agree with the current war situation doesn't mean we should completely get rid of the military. That's just silly.

Besides, the government is the ones that tell the military what to do, so perhaps we should disband them before we disband the military!

Banning the military would be a bad idea. That would mean our country would have no way of defending itself. The military is also good for other things besides war, such as maintaining order during disasters, such as after Hurricane Katrina and after the bombings of the World Trade Center.

So, you say that Israel and Kosovo should not even exist. What makes you think they don't have a right to exist? I think the best thing would be for everyone to learn how to live together peacefully. We should all learn how to accept and respect each other's cultures, not destroy them. There should be no need for suicide bombers and terrorists. We should all work together. That is an ideal world. How do you propose we all work together for a safe society?

A good example of why every country should have a large military is the situation in the Palestinian, Israeli conflict, where the Palestinains, lacking any sort of military are getting killed at seven to eight times the Israeli's, as Israel uses it's military to kill at will, the unarmed Palestinian people.
Tanks against rocks, Jet aircraft against home made rockets, and helicopter gunships against AK47, when available. Reason enough?
