because UK and USa make their own weapons, if the UK and USA used AK47s and went to war with russia, they would stop importing weapons and then what would we fight with.
also AK47s are not accurate, whereas the SA80 and M16 are accurate.
its not a matter of pride that we dont use russian, lol its just that our weapons are better than the AK47 which is a very old gun.
the AK47 makes a good gun for untrained soldier as it is one of the easiest weapons to use as it is very easy to clean and the parts are cheap. the AK47 rarely ever needs repairing |

AK is inaccurate and Russian made. Using Russian weapons would be taken as an admission of inferiority to the Russians. |

Several reasons the AK47 is so named as it entered service in 1947 so it is obsolete, inaccurate and poorly powered by modern standards. You seem to dismiss the matter of pride, however it is highly important and if you understand even a modicum of 20th century history you would understand why the USA and UK cannot and would not use Russian military hardware. The M16 and its modern variants are more accurate than the AK47 |

the AK47 is a rugged and easy to use rifle
that being said it is a terrible weapon, inaccurate and clumsy
an M16 in trained hands is the most deadly rifle in the world |

Countries tend to prefer using weapons made in their own countries. If the U.S. used one of the AK models and then fought Russia, where would they get their weapons? The AK-47 is a good weapon for untrained troops. It's dependable, rugged, and easy to clean. The M-16 model of weapons are incredibly accurate weapons that are also dependable and rugged. I agree that it isn't as easy to clean and it requires training to use well. When it was first fielded during the Vietnam war it was propagandized as a weapon that never needed to be cleaned. It was a hollow boast that led to many weapons malfunctions. |

iam a qualified weapons tech. and cut the crap it aint nothing to do with russians and war! its the aim first 3 rounds are ok after that you coudnt hit a plane 20 feet away lol the british sa80 is a pretty good weapon, good aim and easy to use. |

For one thing, the "AK-47" is obsolete. For about 5 decades the improved AKM has been the standard production model.
For another, AK style weapons are great for untrained militia's and short-term conscripts - people with little or no military skill and no time to learn it. They would not even be on my top 20 list of weapons to consider for a professional volunteer army.
Finally, the M16's problems in Vietnam were 44 years ago. We're way beyond that now. |

The AK-47 uses the non-NATO 7.62 mm round. The 7.62 round gets VERY heavy to fully equip a soldier for combat. About reliability, the US is currently developing guns, such as the X-M8 that trump the AK-47's reliability. Also, at distances over 300 yards, the AK-47's accuracy is poor. Pride is also relevant, no soldier wants to use his enemy's gun. |

Well, Mastermind, if you can answer why the UK and the USA would rely on a former and potentially future enemy to supply them with weapons, when both countries have highly developed arms industries themselves, then your answer is valid.
Also compared to the weapons the UK and the USA use today, the AK 47 is about as competitive as an axe. |

Simple stats.
M16A2- Accurate on a a point target up to 550 meters and accurate up to an area target 800 meter.
AK47- Accurate up to 50 meters on an area target.
Get the picture? |

Because both the UK and USA have their own gun makers to employ.
I don't know about the US Army, but in the British Army in which I served 1957-1965, we were mean with the bullets. It seems to me that one squeeze on the trig of an AK 47 means a whole mag flying out somewhere and wasted.
Instead, just take careful aim and hope to hit the enemy where it hurts most.

Because the UK and US have their own arms industries. The Russians have re-vamped the AK 47 into the AK 74.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AK-74
This is in a different class to the older AK 47 - I`m surprised no one mentioned this development even though your question specified the former. |

Britain like to use our home made rifle SA80. Just like the USA like to use their home made rifles like the M16. |

Because we dont buy guns from russia, we use the m16, and it grealy imrpoved from nam to now, back then it was the obulite m16A1, now we have the m16A2 and A4, which uses burst fire to conserve ammo, besides the ak 47 is very inaccurate and recoil is to high, we also sell m16's to other countries like italy and canada, and the british r just weird they use this like weird bullpop rifle |

The AK 47 is a ruthless gun that's why only ruthless people use it (terrorists)
it has too much recoil and very inaccurate! |

Even the Russians don't make them anymore. The world is awash with second hand AK47's. Everybody but the black market has moved on. In Africa they can be bought for US$10 each! |

we don't use it because it might cause the Russians to attack us but if they wont we should because ts is better than the guns we make |
