Why is China expanding its military?

China always wanted to be the super power of Asia. In a way it is the strongest country militarily and has a tremendous growth in economy compare to it's Asian neighbours, though, India, Koreas and Pakistan all these countries are eyeing this strongest military position, China is way ahead of all it's neighbours. At the same time China have a big land which needed to be defended from it's enemies.China fought many wars with India and it's borders always remain highly secured. China with a Hugh man power is one of the biggest Army in the world. It has a missile defence system and one of the major exporter of weapons in the world. China recently got in to the fighter jet manufacturing and successfully built fighter jets with the help of Israeli technology. It will start exporting fighter jets soon. China is economically capable of spending a lot for it's military.

China is expanding it's military to defend it's power not only in Asia, it's future plans includes becoming one of the super powers in the world.

Because of North Korea. It has little to do w/U.S./China relations. China doesn't want to fight us.....we are one of its biggest customers.

It's not so much expanding as it is modernizing. Though the Chinese have to expand some as they now have huge national interest in the middle east and South America. They operate the Panama canal now. They have close oil dealings with Iran and Venezuela. This is the same reasons we grew our forces to the size they are today to protect our interest.

Great nations have great militaries, and China is growing from a regional power into a world player. It's not necessarily a bad thing as long as they don't try to take Taiwan or muscle any democracies in that region. Besides, China is starting to figure out that communism is a dead end.

There is a global movement toward control of resources; such as, oil, gas, pipelines, countries, etc. The economies of China and India, among others, are expanding and the U.S. is forced to compete for the resources. When countries compete, the military plays a role.

China, will be engulfing Taiwan, under their "One China" policy.

Because it is one of the biggest employers in that nation. Their military does a lot more than just march around and shoot things.

1) Because they have what?... 3 Billion people living there? What the else are they supposed to do?

2) They are preparing for an invasion of the United States via the "land/ice bridge" in Alaska.
