Ya heard me

It is because they have the guts to do it. All of the other deaths etc. you mentioned are not by choice. A soldier knows their chances and takes them. |

Cops are considered hero's too.
Same with Firefighters
Define your definition of what a hero is first, then I can answer you. |

Because they demonstrated that they are willing to risk their lives on your behalf.
Are _you_ worth protecting? |

You or someone else already asked this question. Give it a rest. Accept that they are because they are willing to do something for you that you would not do in return, which is give their life. |

They ARE our HEROES!
Whether you like it or not. |

As an Army veteran, I would normally take offense to that statement; however, you make a good point. I was in for a few years and the only fights I got into were with other Army personnel. Alcohol was normally involved in these cases. The only time I fired my M16 was during qualifications for some kind of school. I don't consider myself a hero but you can't deny the fact that we're in a different time now. To me, anyone who willingly joins the military knowing that you're going to war is at least extremely brave, if not a hero. One of my buddies just came back from Iraq and after all the stories I've heard from him, he and anyone overthere are heroes....that's my opinion, though. |

I AM OFFENDED BY THS QUESTION BECAUSE THERE MAY BE WORSE PLACES IN THE US THAN IRAQ OR AFGHANISTAN, BUT MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT AWAY FROM THEIR FAMILY AS LONG AS OUR BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN ARE! HOW DARE YOU EVEN QUESTION THEM! ASK YOURSELF ONE QUESTION- LOOK DEEP IN YOUR SHALLOW HEART AND FIND OUT WHY YOU DID NOT SIGN UP IF IT SEEMS SO DAMN EASY???? |

I am not from the U S but I would say the answer is the same as in Britain because they are serving their country |

Fact: They get paid very little compared to equivalent civilian jobs
Fact - There are many more places in the US safer than Iraq or Afghanistan. Last I checked the news, there were no shaped charge bombs in the streets of the US. Very few people own AK-47's either.
Fact - There are also about 2000 times more people living in the US than soldiers stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Fact - There are more attacks on soldiers not in buildings in Iraq than on buildings themselves.
Fact - Every US soldier must train with and know how to use a weapon. They can be called on to actually have to use it at any time..
Don't speak about what you do not know about. It is a heroic act to volunteer to serve your country, endure low pay, long trips away from home, dangerous conditions, bad food, little water, little sleep, and not complain about it to others outside of the service.
Instead of belittling their efforts, you should be on your knees thanking them for protecting this country so that you can go on such a mindless rant without worrying about being locked up. |

You ask some variation of this question just about every day. It's clear that you have some axe to grind. But trying to convince people that soldiers shouldn't be held in high regard is a losing proposition. |

It wasn't me that started that crazy asian war,
but I was glad to do my patriotic chore.
Yes it's true that I am not the man I was before,
Ruuuudey, don't take your love to town.
Ruuudeeey, for God's sake turn around. (fade to end) |

Spoken like a true person who knows Absolutely nothing about the military or any true facts about it... Your comparing car crashes..and school shootings to the military and you think you should be taken seriously.. Go play in traffic you douche bag.... |

Your an idiot. You must not have made the cut. |

because there is always the chance
every service member have taken an oath to protect this country, its people, and the constitution, by joining the military they have sworn to defend this nation
what are you charged to protect? |

Fact - We protect.
That's what a hero is, isn't it? I'm sorry there's not enough calamity in the world for you to be pleased with our work. Perhaps you'd like to be placed in the middle of a combat zone somewhere in the Middle East so we can give you a hand, my oh so wonderful citizen. |

Because when you take that oath, you say that you are willing to DIE FOR FREEDOM. You must not be willing to make the same sacrifice, since you have such a low opinion of our troops. |

I agree with the first answerer. To add to the first sentence they wrote, the person who joins the army may or may not see combat. If they have the guts to join it, knowing they could go into combat, they are a hero, and so is everyone in the US Armed Forces. |

those on foreign soil are but not those weekend warriors that don't even bother to show up, |

Good points but the people who join the military are willing to risk and sacrifice more for their country that 90% of their countrymen who never join the military.
Yes, I wish servicemembers weren't considered heros because everybody else was doing their part but the world is not like that. |

You asked this same question a few days ago and just like then I will answer:
Anyone that joins the US Military is brave and to go on and fight against such murdering radical Muslims is a hero. If you don't have the guts to join, you can't be considered a hero.
Cowards can't be heroes. |
