Why is it difficult for an honorably discharged Veteran to hold his/her head up and be proud of the USA?

Why is it difficult for an honorably discharged Veteran to hold his/her head up and be proud of the USA?

Source: Lost in Vietnam. Korea a stalemate. Iraq war not going well. USA doing torture (Waterboarding). Veterans homeless by the thousands all over the USA.

The White Rose
As a former soldier, I can say with some authority that there is nothing worse than being called to fight a war in which one's country has no moral force, only brute force.

It can destroy a man to be asked to do horrible things without moral certainty.

The other vets who posted here apparently have no sense of morality concerning Vietnam or discrimination about which wars are worth fighting and which are ugly and stupid.

It's your GOVERNMENT that did this to your buddies, you damn fools!

The US knows how to win tactically but not strategically and apparently not morally anymore.

The vet who is in any way sensitive to issues of an immoral war can't be proud of his country IN THAT INSTANCE, but the vet who thinks all wars are the same muddles around in a blind dumb form of patriotism.

Chief
It is NOT difficult at all. I served our country for 22 years and am very proud of my service and my country as are most vets. We performed our jobs well with sacrifice, dignity and courage. It is the bleeding heart anti-American liberals who should have difficulty holding their heads high.

What a pile of nonesense. I retired in 86 have never been ashamed of anything. Especially your type of silliness. Lost in Vietnam. Look again sweety. Nixon made us quit and Johnson made us not fight. Lost? Hardly. Korea. Most of it is still free. Stalemate. Ask a Korean, Iraq not going well. Once again you parrot. How do you know? Hussein dead, sounds well to me. Get a life or at least new material.

On the contrary; I have absolutely no difficulty holding my head high and be proud of the U.S.A., and I am an honorably discharged combat veteran.

If you're having trouble with it, well... it's hard for eunuchs to feel manly around real men. If you don't know what a eunuch is, then you probably are one.

More self praise little old troll,

only you could call yourself an honorably discharged Vet,

all your ex-veteran comrades are hanging their heads in shame because they know you are not worthy of that title being anti U.S. troll posting propaganda about the Armed Forces of the USA.

Go cry to your buddy Hanoi Jane, maybe she will slip a few dollars into your grubby paw for a nice cup of Lemon Juice.

Perhaps you should move to France?

Lots to be proud of there.

Lets us know how it works out for you.

As you are not an honorably discharged veteran, you would have no idea.

I am an honorably discharged veteran, and I have no problem stating that I am a proud American Veteran!

"Iraq war not going well" Wrong! Try to keep up with current events.

"Veterans homeless by the thousands all over the USA" From what time span? For what reason? Include some details from reliable sources.

"Lost in Vietnam" This was a political loss, as everybody knows.

"Korea a stalemate" Technically correct, however: Hostilities have ceased. Communism did not spread further south.

I am very proud to be an American Veteran!

SFC_Ollie
Difficult? I have news for you, after 22 years on active duty, this vet finds it the easiest thing in the world to show his pride.
Pride in my service and Pride in my country.

We never lost in Nam, politics didn't allow a win, Korea became what it was going to become, god knows why.

Water boarding? Are we? Has it saved even one live? Then I hope we do even more.

Homeless vets? too many programs out there for even me to believe it. how many fake vets have we found recently because of the bennies they were getting? I just have to wonder.

But regardless I am still proud to be an American Veteran and still use (and always will use) My retired rank as my title instead of MR.

It sounds like you are the one with the problem, not them.

people like you..i'm a 10 yr vet...served in vietnam, and proud of it...it's the public and the media that blows everything out of whack..it sell papers, and people like you fall for it...your facts are garbage...have you ever served ???if so, are you proud of it ???...if not then either leave this country or shut up...to many servicemen and women died so idiots can ***** about wars...the servicemen dont lose wars or draw even..the servicemen do what their government tells them..the outcome isnt the servicemens fault...i was in a helocopter squadron in nam..we flew over cities dropping pamphlets warning of future attacks...that was not the militaries idea...to many non-military jokers try to run things from washington...what a bunch of crap..and the servicemen gwet the blame...

Insane
I have NEVER met a Veteran who was not PROUD of the USA!

The armed forces of this country have never lost a war, liberal politicians have lost us a war and are trying to do it again.
but Never has that been the fault of US service men & women.

It is hard for any American to hold their head up high when we are constantly bombarded with how awful our country is and all the horrible things we have done. Maybe there has been mistakes made, but this is the most free country on earth and we are so lucky to be Americans. Maybe you should look at the positive.

H B
Not all are but the ones that are is because of the way the wack-o people treat them when they come home. The protesters make life difficult for them

THANK YOU VETS FOR YOUR SERVICE TO US

I have no trouble holding up my head nor do my parents who both were in Vietnam. Why not make a difference and try to help those in need instead of trying to make the military look like crap.

Before Nam, veterans were treated with respect, welcomed home as heros, many with their old jobs waiting. Nam changed all that, the vets and soldiers were spit on, called baby killers, people would turn away not not meet their eyes.
One's sitting in wheelchairs were spurned as if they deserved their injuries. Many without a visitor friend or family laid in our VA Hospitals. Dejected and rejected, these are a lot of your homeless vets. Some turned to drink and drugs to try and forget, it helped for a little while and they became slaves to their only relief. At least this time we're getting the message out there, these troops don't write their orders, they don't say lets go kill some civies, or lets drop a bomb on a mosque today. They shoot at the ones shooting at them, at the ones putting bombs along the roads, the ones going into shopping areas and blowing themselves up along with mothers and fathers trying to get food for their families. They are there hunting for the ones who would support more 9/11's and are working toward that end. I won't say that once in a while you'll not get a rogue, hell we have them here in our own cities. Shooting up co-workers, fellow students, total strangers. But because one or two students went bad we don't say everyone in that school is bad. Because an employee shot up the post office we don't say we will not accept mail delivered by that office.
We need to let our troops know we are proud that they are doing what is necessary to make it okay again to feel safe.
Veterans Day is right around the corner, go to a VA Hospital and say thanks in person. That will help them hold up their head. And thanks for asking,

I agree with format...try looking at all the positive Americans do, and not just repeating what you hear on CNN about how bad we are. This is not to imply we are perfect, but the reality is, it can always get/be worse. Personally, I try to look at the bad, see ways to correct it, and move forward concentrating on the positive. Perhaps if you tried to do something similar, you could begin to hold your head high again (assuming you held it high while you served...if you served.) If you did not serve, and are making a broad generalization, let this be a lesson as to why you should not make an AZZ of U and ME!!! I am a Vet...quite proud of my service, my country and those who still serve my country.
