Why is the AK-47 famous?

Its one of the most reliable assault rifles in the world. The machining is loosely designed to allow for the ease of the action whether it is gunked in mud, sand, or snow. Its not as accurate as the M16 at range. For its intended purpose (i.e. a close range full automatic firefight), it probably surpasses the M16's 5.56 bullet in knockdown ability, which is more important to me than the accuracy at range.

Do you know who first made the M16? We use to say; "you can tell it's Mattel, it's smell's!" That's right, it was a toy company that got the contract. That's why the stupid gun jammed every five minute's. I bought a shotgun on R&R along with a .38 and ditched the 16. I wasn't going to die for that piece of junk. Ya, the M14 was heavier, but a 30-30 will get you a kill. We had a demo at Firebase Sally, they dropped the AK in the mud then ran it over with a jeep. They picked it up, ****** it and fired it full auto. It did not jam! You can't say that about the 16 and the most prolific submachine gun in the world is the AK.

The AK-47 is famous because not only is it the most reliable assault rifle in the world. But it is cheap and easy to produce.Also it the most common one used by insurgents and terrorists and we see it to many times in the news.Thats why you see this weapon in most anti-terror games. Also I would rather have the AK-47 than the M-16 because it is very easy to use.

Its fast, rugged, built in many different grades. Works dirty, works clean. some people swear its the best there is. Better than the A-4 carbine, or the M16A2. Probably not better, but could be. The M16 can shoot a fly a 400 yds. The A-4, when warmed up, can put out an unreal rate of fire that in the right hands is ferocious. Indoor work is a specialty. For my money I'd rather have a SAW, but they didn't ask. The AK's are everywhere, and many western fighting men speak highly of it. The best of them are Czech. The worst Chinese.

The AK is one of the oldest, cheapest, user friendly, reliable and powerful assault rifles in the world.
The USSR would help Communist rebels by supplying AK's to them in world conflict and as a result they are everywhere with knock-offs being made all the time. The AK's weapon system has caused the most deaths of any other in history.

The ak-47 and the AK family of assult rifles (AKM, AK-74 AKSU) etc are very famous world wide for many reasons. First developed by a soviet tank mechanic at the end of WWII it was one of the first mass produced true fully automatic/single shot selectable assult rifles int he world. The model 47 comes from 1947. The klashnikov is a very reliable rifle and fires a russian 7.62mmx39 round. It was orginally made of stamped steel with wood hand grips etc. Due to its gas piston design and lower machining tolerances it is in effect more reliable than an m-16a2. It is a very easily recognized rifle world wide and because of being a soviet bloc weapon it is easily obtained in all its forms and has been made in more than 25 different countrys including semi auto matc "klashinikov sporting rifles" in many diferent chamberings. It also has the longest in service time of any weapon other than the m2 .50 cal machine gun. All theese design factors and more have made it so famous. Plus it has been used by terrorists world wide and seen in everything from the munich attacks to the holly wood bank robberies on tv. ....shadow stalker.

Its a very rugged and cheap rifle, I've seen it pulled out of the ground and still fire, would never attempt with my M4.

Why was the Volkswagen Beetle famous? The USSR churned out millions, and then sold the design to dozens of other countries so they could sell them. The design is simplistic, basically being stamped steel, and tolerances were such that it would keep firing even when fouled by carbon, but that also means that wear and tear shortens the life considerably and makes it one of the most inaccurate rifles in the world. Comparing it with an M-16 is like comparing a Model T with a Mustang.

Having said that, for about $300-400 for a semi-auto version, They are also one of the most affordable rifles of any kind, let alone an assault rifle.

They made more of them than any other rifle used militarily. The Israeli version is just about indestructible. I still like the FN/FALS like they had in Rhodesia.

it is an extremely rugged and dependable firearm, and many, many, many were made. It is the most common assualt rifle in the world. That is why it is famous. Better than the m-16? Depends all on the person firing the gun.

The AK-47 is so famous is that can be made with such low tolerances it is cheap to make. Because it is so cheap to make, it is the most made rifle in the world. The AK-47 accuracy is hurt because of it low tolerances compared to the high tolerance of the M-16. So it's easy to make, easy to train someone to use, most reproduced weapon in the world.

It is one of the most reliable military rifles around. The round it shoots, the 7.62mmx39, is far superior to the ,223 round which cannot penetrate anything more than light armor.

It is very reliable firearm, easy to take care and handle. The 7.62 is able to penetrate up to ½ inch steel (steel core round), but full jacket can go through 1/8 inch steal or a concrete block. The 5.45 round can’t. It is the best for self-defense, if you get a military version. Under folded stock, and a good muzzle breaker is a must. Mine an AK 47 semi Yugo can group 5 rounds at 4” 100yards. The recoil mechanism is designed for auto, so you can pump 8 rounds per second if you are fast at the trigger. It is a good idea that 3 first rounds to be Winchester, wolf or Tula $0.25 a piece one percent misfire. If you need 1” group at 100 yards, this is not a self-defense, now you are assaulting an animal or human. Need a quality rifle, good scope, and the reticule perpendicular at bore. You have to set 100 yard set point, and make the reverse “T” letter test. First shoot at 0 MOA, and a second at 10-20 MOA. If 2 rounds are not aligned then you have to rotate a little bit the scope. Of course you need sniper rounds. Good luck.
