Why is the British military leaving if the job is not done?

The British military mission in Iraq is ending later on Thursday with a special ceremony marking the handover of control in Basra.

Why are the USA military upset over this?

The moment Obama won the election it was only a matter of time until the british pulled out.

Bush was in for the long haul "until the job was done" as a close ally of the US the british would have supported that stance although it was unpopular in Briton to do so.

Obama won the election and promised to withdraw from iraq in an orderly fashion "even if the jobs not done" at this point the british really have to follow that policy from the US and as the Uk only had 5000 troops and they was only really in bases as a Symbol of the british standing shoulder to shoulder with the US they was very easy to withdraw.

I don't think the US military will be upset at the British over this as all they have done is supported an ally and allowed the US to take the lead role and followed Obama's policy of withdrawing.

The job is never going to be done, Britain has trained the Iraqi security forces to take over much of the policing and military role. The US Forces are also currently training Iraqi's to eventually take over much of the US Security role.

The different muslim factions will still hate each other no matter what we do, and staying in the region is just inflaming the situation.

In terms of troop levels and commitment Britain has done more to support the US effort than any other nation, and we also have significant forces in Afghanistan.

British Forces are currently moving some troops from Iraq to the new effort in Afghanistan, and it is prudent to concentrate on one effort at a time to avoid over stretching our Armed Forces.

The british troops cant stay there all of the time, they have trained the iraqi troops and police force to deal with things themselves. People have to remember that we went in there to help not to take over, we have helped rebuild the government now its time to hand it back to the people :)

The British military is pulling out probably because the British government wants them out. The US may be upset because they do not see the region as stable enough yet, and appreciated the help the British forces gave them. I don't think it is colonialism because most
Americans want our troops out of there asap.

The work is done by their side, but US has a lot of work ahead. It seems they have another fresh mission in Iran. That's for themselves, as UK indicated to withdraw.

well i am please the uk is leaving they should have been in Charge on the Ground NOT the USA Like in WW2 all the Americans did was to extend WW2 past June 1943

the British have done their Job it is time to go Home

Because the US mindset is that it wants to be there forever, this is called imperialism and colonialism. Britain got over that a long time ago. The US is still wallowing in it. The US needs to simply pack up and get out, too. It would be better for everybody.

The US is upset because it tried to hide its imperialistic and colonial goals under the disguise under the basket of "coalition forces". This made it look like it is was a group effort of a great many countries. Now the US is losing its "coalition" excuse and when it is the only one left will be forced to admit its imperialistic intent.
