It pays for college and they have a place to be besides the streets or a dead end job.
I personally don't want to join the military(it's just not my thing), but a few of my friends are and I have no problem with it |

I am a 100% service-connected disabled Vietnam Veteran. Why ?? For the children. For my home. For You. You are My family. My Country. I am 59 yrs. old.. I have Agent-Orange related Cancer. I have 5 months left. btw, ...... You are welcome. Jimmy Cain, Sgt. E-5 MACVSOG, Mekong River Delta, Cho Lach Village, .... RVN. 1968-1969. I wondered, ..... while lying in a pool of everyone else's blood on the floor of a Huey, ..... with an AK round lodged in my spine, ........ a ricochet. The other half of the round killed a 17 yr. old door gunner. You question ?? again ?? |

*the believe in what they are fighting for
*They are doing what they can to support their country
*To gain valuable experience that will help them later in life
*To earn money for college
*To start a career
*To get on the right track (kids on drugs)
Not everybody shares the same Bush Bashing liberal hippy opinion that you do. You should be very grateful to those who choose to serve to keep you free. |

I don't know any kids who have joined the military. But I am an 18 year old man and I joined the military to protect my country and my family. I wanted to be a part of something big so I joined the greatest organization in the world. Also we most definitely know what we are fighting for, our country, your freedom, and the men to my left and right. |

The military gives alot of people a chance to earn a living, build up self esteem, have a job which will help them on the civilian side, money for college, room and board.
Others do it for the pride of protecting our country and the honor that comes from being in the military.
Well if you are so unhappy here then leave no one is going to stop you. Here is a kleenex for you too. |

To protect the rights of all Americans. Even if it protects the rights of an idiot like you to flap his ignorant lips. God bless the U.S.A.!!! |

I suppose for the same reason others don't. It is what they believe in! Joining the military means you are serving your country ...... your "boss" will change every 4-8 years. My father served for 20 yrs. All 6 of my brothers have served 20+ years each and my husband is currently serving .... 25 years and counting. All of them have had good leaders and questionable leaders but their ultimate duty remained the same ... defending the greatest nation of all ... the USA! Instead of asking such a dumb question, maybe you should go out and thank a veteran for giving you the option to NOT SERVE!! |

They fight to free those who cannot free themselves, they fight to stand up for what they believe in, they fight to protect their family and friends, they fight for you... do you see the ignorance of your question??? |

many see joining the military as a sign of showing one's love and loyalty to their country, and that their duty is to fight for their country. It's not that they believe in Bush's ideas or even support him- it has to do with their personal beliefs towards the US, and to them, fighting for their country is the best thing they feel they can do for the US. Even if it costs them their lives in the end.
Many others see the dangling carrot of opportunity (i.e. paid tuition by the military) and join for that reason solely, though that is normally done more often during times of peace. |

Hmm lets see, how much do you pay on your mortgage on your house right now? don't have one well how much is the % of intress on your parents? lower the 4% no well I win
how much did you pay for college? more then $1000 a semester, well I win
How many speeding tickets have you've gotten out of for having a veterns liciencs plate? less then 6? I win
When you see these kids in 10 years at a class reunion what are you gonna talk about? what are they? who do you think will have the better stories about their lives? We, again.
Need more? I can go on for days!
One more thing, I was enlisted, means I uphold the laws put forth by the US constitution not the president, officers get their ranks from president. So about this freedom of speech that you are using asking this question, your welcome. |

We aren't free?! WE aren't free?! Go ahead an research Iraq alittle and listen to the how the Iraqis were truly NOT FREE. Thanks to that "corrupt George Bush" women have more power and rights then ever and the real corrupt Saddam is gone forever.
Praise the kids joining the military because they've got more balls than you'll ever have. |

Be thankful they do. Freedom isn't free. If you're not willing to serve at least be man enough to support the ones that do.

You are more free than you think. If you were in another country, you could be killed for talking about your president and your country like that. I'm not for George Bush, but he's not going to be president forever. And I'm sure the people in the military know what they are fighting for, and gladly fight, so that we can be free. Whether you believe it or not. And so that dumbsh*ts like you can talk crap about the people who are defending your freedom as we speak |

Most people don't join the military to follow the president, they do it because they are trying to preserve the freedoms that we enjoy here in the United States.
Paying for college is one of the perks. Another one that I can think of is getting to see new place and meet new people, you wouldn't get a chance to do these things if you are going to work at McDonald's. |

I was a college graduate when I enlisted as an Infantryman.
Why?
Because I believe in the system this nation is founded on. I believe in what it stands for.
No, I do not believe in the people that make up the system, but I wanted to do what I could for it. That became my purpose, to prove I could do the right thing and GIVE BACK to the nation that provided me with everything I had.
Clearly, you have zero-concept of that.
There is more to life than just purpose. There is more to life than just serving. That is what I am doing now, getting back to my civilian life.
There is the claim: what is the point if you do not partake in the benefit?
It does not matter if I do not partake in any of it, I did not sign on for so-called "Fame and Fortune"
What is important is that the system survives, that I helped preserve it.
And that is why it is called indoctrination, is the next accusation, another name for which is brainwashing.
It is not indoctrination, it is not brainwashing. It is believing in something besides just yourself. I fought for our system because I believe in what it stands for.
I did not fight for politics. I did not fight for doctrine. I fought for an ideology, for a principal.
This is what I believe in.
If I was anything like you and people that think like you, what value would I have? What use am I to anyone else?
Nothing, I would be good for nothing.
Doing this, I know at least someone will benefit from my efforts and sacrifice, perhaps someone that has not even been born yet.
But they will.
That is enough for me, that was the most important thing to me. That is the ideal I believe in, that is the ideal I was willing to die for.
It was the ideal I killed for.
What you fail to grasp is that the principal is what is at stake here, not just personal interests. The nation has forgotten this, or at least this is the view of the men and women serving today. It is bigger than me, bigger than you, bigger than any single person.
I knew I was expendable, I accepted that fact, there was a comfort in embracing it even.
Your attitude states that you are incapable of making any meaningful sacrifice that goes beyond personal want.
Your kind will only be kept free by the efforts of men better than yourself.
It embarrasses me as a Combat Veteran to know I risked my life for ignorant, ungrateful fools such as you.
At least I was never disposable, unlike your attitude.
And the down checks prove the truth hurts, don't it? |

There as many reasons as those who join.
Guess what you may think Bush is corrupt but there are many who don't and understand that this war against Muslim terrorism is worth it.
On 9/11 Muslim terrorists attack us. |

You are trying to discourage people from joining the military.
If you succeed at your goal, you will decrease the size of our military and cause us to be a weaker nation, more vulnerable to attacks.
What you are doing is TREASON. |

What I heard is that the military/army/navy/air force/etc. promises things that you really want. There fore they'd go because they're getting their wish in the long run. |

have you seen the job market lately? Why not join. JOB security. Do you have a job? Does your job provide free medical and dental. Does your job pay for your relocations? Does your job afford you the opportunity to travel? War is nothing new for the United States. People say why join you can get killed. NEWSFLASH you can get killed in the US. Remember 9/11? dont judge those with the courage to even join the military. |

Main reason is to protect our nation. It takes a special person be it man or woman to join the military. They are there to protect their freedoms. If it wasn't for them from the revolutionary war to the present you might not be enjoying the freedoms you have today. So you should be out there shaking their hand and thanking them for joining and doing their duty. That way you can say what you want about the president without fear of reprisal and maybe worse. Or better yet go see a Recruiter and join their ranks. |

well my husband absolutely loves the Air Force he makes over $50 grand a year and is only 23! (he's a flying crew chief) he has traveled all over the world, Chile, costa rica, hawaii, diego garcia, russia, germany, belgium, thailand, and countless others, have you heard the iranian president speak, WE ARE FREE! you are so spoiled by this country! i guess you like the idea that the democrats have about letting the government being in charge of our healthcare and not having a choice of what doctor you want to see? and taxing us to high heaven (thats where the money comes from in case you didn't know) socialized medicine has proven to not work in countries that practice it, whats the use, you are close minded |
