Hezbollah and Israel need each other to keep their arguments alive rather than take the diplomatic route where both sides would have to compromise.
The US and many Arabic countries see this as a mirror to their overriding ideals for that area. So peace and especially compromise would have a negative (albeit positive in most eyes) knock on effect on the policies and ideologies of the US.
With out enemies the US cannot pursue peace in the middle east. |

Because Israel is caught up in a vicious cycle with all it's neighbouring countries, and it has been for many decades. To take a side in this war would be not only foolish in terms of getting caught up in a seemingly never-ending series of wars, but also there is a certain amount of right on both sides. |

Because they have a right to defend themselves. If a terrorist organization snuck in from Mexico and kidnapped 2 American soldiers and dragged them behind their military stronghold I would want us to get them back without negotiations. After trying to free them and then having hundreds of missiles dropped into Dallas Texas I would expect us to eliminate the threat at all costs awhile trying our best to not hit civilians. Unfortunately the Hezbollah are integrated into the civilian population hiding munitions in schools and hospitals.If it was my choice I would warn everyone in southern Lebanon to evacuate 30 miles north of the border and turn it into a desert. Then it would be nothing but mines and barbed wire fenced all the way to the border. All of the land Israel has returned to the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples has been used by the terrorists to hunker down and stockpile weapons donated by Syria and Iran. Israel has given far more land to the Palestinian people than Iran and Syria combined. 90% of the west bank and the Gaza strip was an olive branch. Iran and Syria offer them nothing but a Terrorist organization. Why don't they give the poor Palestinian people land and money to establish a legitimate state instead of using those poor people as pawns to incite war? Thank you for your pertinent question. |

Israel is doing their part in the war against terrorism. Just as we did after 9-11 in Afghanistan, but Israel had been being attacked by Hamas for years log before 2001. Lebanon's government was suppose to rid it's country of hamas in 2002, when Israel pulled it's troops out of Lebanon but Lebanon couldn't accomplish this. Israel is doing the right thing since her neighbors to the north couldn't. The Muslim extremists who keep attacking Israel are no different than the ones who hijacked planes and flew into OUR landmarks, destroying the twin trade towers and thousands of lives. Perhaps this link will put this war into perspective. Muslim extremists my dear want nothing more than to see ALL non Muslims dead.... including you and me. |

Israel is defending itself. If they can seriously degrade Hezbollah, they will further everyone's interests by show the rest of the world that Iran is not as smart or as powerful as they think. And THAT just might inject some rationality into their foreign policy decisions. |

Honestly, IF you watched the news once and a while you would see that the terrorists said that the USA was next do you want them to release the terrorists and let us get bombed?!!!! If someone stops Israel then that's telling the terrorists that they will not have any repercussions for there actions. Also if all the countries in the world are not stopping Israel maybe that's telling us Israel has the right idea on how to deal with terrorists. |

This is a complex issue, the BBC and mainstream media blame the current escalation of violence on the kidnap of 2 Israeli soldiers. The 7 or 8 innocent civilians killed in mortar attacks on the Palestinian side sunbathing on a beach in Gaza in the middle of June has been forgotten about and Hezbollah are now to blame for everything. Which is strange because Hamas is surly easier for President Bush to pronounce. |
