Why not put in heavy machine gun positions every 100 yards along the US-Mexican border?

... and establish a free kill zone?

1760 yards in a mile, 2000 miles of border. You do the math. |

That's 34,655 heavy machine guns. Each of which requires a crew of at least nine (for 24/7 coverage) meaning 311,895 trained gunners, not to mention support staff, administrators, and the like.
You want to pay for this? Assume each gunner gets paid like an Army PFC. Annual pay for just your gunners is $6,562,894,590. |

Because we're not at WAR with Mexico.
You know this, right? |

It would be cheaper to just invade Mexico, treat the drug cartels like insurgents and then hand the country back over to it's own government....Iraq is a precedent. At the same time, we would get their businesses and trade back on track so there wouldn't be so many trying to escape poverty by coming here. Of course our troops would have to contend with IEDs suppled by the Colubmians and there is a chance Venezuala would give support to the cartels too. Alternative would be to annex Mexico and make it a new state.....then they wouldn't be illegals anymore. Just a thought. BTW, the guns would only stop the runners...no affect on the tunnelers and the submariners. |

I think yhat the us. Is to cheap and that they don't really care about the border as much as they say they do. But I like your idea. Let's shoot some caners.

Sounds good to me...but it'd be cheaper just to give Border Patrol heavier firepower and tell them shoot to kill....no warning shots. |

Suppose the Mexicans win a battle and get a hold of them. I wouldn't like that outcome. |

It will cost more than the expected result will be. Reinforce and supplement our border patrol there is more like it. |

The reality is that the marijuana industry in the united states is worth billions of dollars while its still illegal. If the "drug" were legalized then the drug cartels would cease to force themselves into the U.S. market. Weed is the most profitable drug from start to finish and is also the most popular by far...some 40% of americans have tried it. Legalize pot and you get rid of the drug cartel...if the drug cartel no longer has money to operate...well u get the picture.
Also if they would have built the fences taller in the first place...
As for deporting current illegals...do some research on the number of kids being born to illegal parents who are given citizenship..its ridiculous, talk about bringing up children in poverty....these kids will never get good edu or jobs and will turn criminal themselves...unless they want to starve to death. |

that would not help because, most of the drugs are entering underground so, they're still be violence. |

I think its a great idea! Give the Mexicans a fighting chance. Oh, you meant facing the other way...
Its a sad world we live in and your question affirms it. |

Maybe because killing innocent people is wrong. You view illegal Mexican Immigrants as an enemy force, when they are not. They are wanting to come to our country to escape the Poverty in theirs. They are doing the dirty jobs even you wouldn't want to do. I say welcome them, to an extent.
Meaning, if we catch someone trying to cross the border, send them back. If we catch them already living in our country, fine them. If they cannot pay, deport them. Easy as that. |
