Why should I support the troops...?

You can support the troops and be against the war. I think the best way to support them would be to work to end an unjust war. Regardless of your opinion on the war, we need a strong military for the possibility that we could be attacked and possibly lose our liberties. It is up to our leaders to ensure that war is only undertaken when there is a serious and credible threat to our security, but being fallible human beings, they don't always make the right decisions.

Support the troops, let your representatives know you don't want to see their lives wasted fighting an illegal and immoral war.

How long do you believe you would keep your freedoms without those troops? If they were not out there fighting for you, then you would not be on this forum. And you may not even be speaking English. Fact is without those troops you may not be permitted to speak in public at all. Think about it.

Men and women are giving up there lives for you. There trying to prevent another terrorist attack in this country from happening. Whether it's working or not, people are still giving there lives up for the people in this country. That's why you should support them. You don't have to believe in the war to support our troops. I don't care if your a democrate, republican, liberal, whatever you still support your troops and be thankful that they give there lives for you to be able to enjoy all of the wonderful things the U.S has to offer.

Kaitlyn - my fiancee is in the army (8yrs) and i am completely against the war... when we get into discussions about it, he has a very good way of putting it to me me. He say..."Its better that i be on their home front, bombing and shooting at trained professionals, living every day in danger... than to have them hijack our planes, intrude on our soil and kill civilians by the thousands. Unarmed, unprotected civilians."

He makes perfect sense. I dont believe that the politics surrounding this war are believable, and i feel as if im being lied to by the government. I think that the US government is using men and women to protect their investments. But i support the people who are keeping my mind free and clear of worry that i will live to see tomorrow. I feel as if, my fiancee is keeping me safe... every day

im not going to rant at you and try to change your mind on WHY you should support the troops. its obvious you are too stubborn and inconsiderate to think of anyone besides yourself.

you are welcome for my father's and my husband's sacrifice to make this country a safer place to sleep.
you are welcome for the 2 1/2 years i have spent alone away from my husband in constant worry of his well being.
you are welcome for the thousands of troops who gave the ultimate sacrifice so you can whine on Y!Answers without persecution.
and you are welcome--for the troops before, now, and in the future, will be brave enough to stand up for what is right, so that you may continue to live the life of luxury and freedom that you do now.

Why do you think you have been free for 20 years? The current war is not the only war where people have died for the things you're taking for granted.

If you don't think you should support the troops and their families for the sacrifices they're making, find some place else to live.

I think its people like you that should have to go over there and see what the h*** the troops are going through. What the h*** do you mean why support them?? Are you insane? All I can say is WOW!! You have no idea about the world you live in. A true "American" would never for a moment not support the very people who not only made America what it is but they also fight to keep it a place of freedom.

Go live in China or Russia for 6 months, even in England they can jail you for any reason they see fit and hold you for however long they want.

Get some life experience under your belt and look back at this in 5 years, then you will realize just how much our troops do for every single citizen.

The are fighting for your freedom...if not we would be taken over and ran by other countries. Would you want that. You are not a true american if you can't support your american troups who put their lives on the line everyday for YOUR freedom.

Your freedom is being threatened, and they are fighting to protect that. It is because of the military that the U.S. is a free country. They are also fighting to give other people in other countries freedom. Take Iraq for instance. There was a dictator in power, a dictator who was guilty of genocide, oppressing people and of harboring terroists from other countries. Terrorists that attacked civilians on American soil. We went in, we took out the dictator and now we're trying to help stabalize a government and train Iraqi troops and help rebuild the country. The battle now is against the rebel groups (extremist Shiite Muslims among others) who want Iraq to be a in control of the terrorists because they essentially want to make it a literal breeding ground for terrorists. If we weren't there, then that's what it would become and that would be a really, really bad thing. They are fighting the terrorists and Islam in general there so that you don't have to fight it here. So yes, they are protecting you, and your right to say stuff like you are saying. Enjoy that freedom of speech.... without the military fighting to defend it, you wouldn't have it.
It sickens me that people think this way. I think that everyone should have to serve in the armed forces... man what an eye opener that would be. But, ignorance is bliss I suppose...

Okay, so you were born here. You are very lucky to have been born here. Others only dream that they could have been. They dream of coming to the US. Land of the free. Why is it the land of the free? Because, it's the home of the Brave. The Brave being the men and women who have served and who currently serve in our nation's military. The military that keeps your freedom from being trounced on by other countries and peoples. The military that protects your basic rights. He's right... if you don't like it, if you don't think that the military isn't fighting to keep you free, if you would like to see what a country without freedom defended by a military is like, then please, go to another country just to see what life is like. Go to Iraq and see the faces of the Iraqi civilians who smile at you because they are glad that SOMEONE cares about their freedom enough to defend them against a dictator and insurgents. And lastly, you may want to consider growing up a little bit - you don't sound like a 20 year old hon, in all honesty, you sound like you're a 15 year old know-it-all on a rant. Better yet, enlist in the military and find out just how much you take for granted.

Maybe you should put some camo on and go play in 130 degree sand and have to walk in the middle of the nite when you have to use the bathroom somewhere to get running water and miss your family and see how much you support the troops then. dummy

Take the time to learn some history, thank a Veteran, then come back here with another question such as, "How can I show more support for the troops?"

If it wasn't for those that served and died before you wouldn't be free. Quit being ungrateful. Your only living in a free country because servicemembers have sacraficed their lives to keep it that way.
Think about, we are willing to die so you can keep living your free life in the U.S. The only thing we ask for you in return is that you not insult us and show us a little support.
They are fighting for you. As long as we keep the insurgents busy on their own turf, they don't come over here and commit acts of terror by killing innocents. Your safe because we are not allowing them to terrorize you.
You have no idea what the soldiers, sailors, marines, or airmen go through on a daily basis...you just sit around living your life ranting about how good you got it. Next time you see a servicemember, think about what he has been through. Would you have the courage to do it...I think not!!!

They actually are fighting for your freedom. They are fighting those who would take your freedom and make you do as they wish, had they opportunity. Better to fight them over there than here, wouldn't you say? The goal of a lot of those organizations is a one world Islamic state. They would happily eradicate the US in the achievement of their goal. In fact, that would bring them closer than they have ever been and they will NEVER stop fighting for that end. Freedom is more tenuous than you think it is.

Supporting the troops and supporting the war are two very different things.

you should support the troops because these are people who are basically being forced to go to war. Many people just join the military to pay for college. Most of these people have spouses and children at home. If those troops do not come home safe we as taxpayers will support those spouses and children the rest of our lives.

Should you support the war? That's a question for you to answer yourself. But do NOT be duped by politicians that tell you should support more military spending because you need to support the troops. If military spending stops our troops will have to come home, and that keeps them safe. If spending stopped and the government left the troops there without ammo. like sitting ducks, that would just give us an excuse to locate all of our elected officials and cut off their heads.
