When someone in the military enlists they concede to a system which is contrary to always having free speech. A private isn't expected to be able to mouth off to a major. A major isn't expected to be able to mouth off to a colonel. This is necessary to maintain discipline. A disciplined army is essential to the proper operation of the military. So why can a General not mouth off to or show disrespect to the president? Because he is in his chain of command. |

Some people are falling for a media con job. The headlines and the attention getting first sentence make it seem like General Stanley McChrystal is the one being quoted but if you read further you will see that it was his aid that was making those comment and not McChrystal
"I extend my sincerest apology for this profile. It was a mistake reflecting poor judgment and should never have happened. "Throughout my career, I have lived by the principles of personal honor and professional integrity. What is reflected in this article falls far short of that standard,"~ General Stanley McChrystal
"I have enormous respect and admiration for President Obama and his national security team, and for the civilian leaders and troops fighting this war and I remain committed to ensuring its successful outcome." ,"~ General Stanley McChrystal |

Chain of command, no officer is supposed to criticize a superior, that is simply regulations, and Obama is commander in chief, admittedly much to the peril of this nation and free world. But the structure of our nation is that civilian, elected authority, not military, is in supreme command and it must remain so no matter what occupies the highest office in this country. An officer is only free to criticize a superior AFTER they resign their commission, unlike some high profile military commentators who kept sniping at GW Bush. |

For what? Speaking the truth? I would give him a star for telling the truth. |

Though he shouldn't have made such comments then and in the past, like last year. Seriously... he's spot on. Obama has no damn clue what need to be going on here on the ground. That is the truth.
I'm not a fan of McCrystal, but I know he knows whats best. And because of that, I respect him a great deal. He knows how this war needs to be handled, but he isn't able to do it the way it needs to be because of Obama and the BS politics.
Obama is just worried about public opinion. Screw public opinion. The public doesn't know neither.
No, I'm not an Obama hater or anything like that. I just know how it is. People in offices don't know a damn thing about what we go through. They can stuff it.
Give me thumbs down if you like... but everything I just said is true and you know it. |

He shouldn't apologize for telling the truth. The reason he apologized is so the Democrats can't use his quote in TV and radio advertising for the November elections. We all know it's true. |

Just says that he used poor judgement in saying what he did not in what he said.
He didn't need a meeting I could have told him exactly what he needed to know and I have only listened to this Marxist on TV. |

I would have to say yes. Only because in the military there are certain things you can and cannot say. Especially to the media.
If he was not in the military I would say never should he apologize to nobama and the rest of the morons invading the White House until 2012
I can just imagine obama stamping his feet falling on the ground and having a temper tantrum.
I say SCREW him. I can say that because of freedom of speech and I am no longer in the military. |
