its tougher for them to get the products they are used to.
like, its not so easy for the soldiers to find panteen pro v shampoo and stuff like that. instead they are stuck with the government issue stuff. it just helps them feel closer to home and helps them remember what they are fighting for. |

Because sometimes soldiers actually needs things that they dont have anyone back home to send. My husband just had me send him a box full of toothpaste, body wash, and deoderant because where hes at---he cant buy them and he was completely out of it. SO...the single soldiers over there that dont have anyone back home need that kind of stuff too and have no one to ask for it.
Plus--my husband says that when he watches a single guy open letters and boxes from pen pals back home--its like watching a kid at christmas everytime. Yeah--boosting morale i guess. BUT.....for them..being over there means they are giving their lives for people that they dont even know and they still do it gladly because its the life they chose. So knowing someone back home is actually thinking about them means that gives them hope for another day that someone cares.
I love my soldier :D haha thats another reason. |

I'm a soldier currently deployed in Iraq..and i want to say thanks to anyone who ever sent a package to a soldier here..There times things get bad and u forget why ur even over here and u get a package somethin as precious as a child coloring a picture and it reminds u why were here. There alot of us here and the store cant stay stocked and its nice when supply run low to get a package.. many people dont agree with the war and alot tend to blame it on the soldiers that are here and hate on us..were just doing our job..sombody has to do it..and it shows that there people that still stand behind us and support us.. But thank u all and God Bless..I hope i answered ur question in some form.. |

Yeah... The AAFES Army Air Force Exchange Service tends to over charge on many of the cool stuff people send in care packages.
Much of the stuff can not be found in the AAFES. AAFES also tends to sell 'past due' items that are not to be consumed unless a troop wants to risk food poisoning or a rash. (I'M NOT Kidding.)
In many of the packages, there's a personal note or letter from a school child... it really makes a soldier think about what home is all about. It develops and nurtures the will to do their best. |

Ummmmm, yea. When our soldiers are overseas, they don't have any comforts of home. They are not able to shower daily, enjoy home cooked meals or relax...they are on CONSTANT ALERT! Care packages give them a little feeling of home... a little something to look forward to. It makes them feel cared about and respected...even wanted. Feelings that they don't have where they are. |

because they need certain items they cannot purchase where they are stationed or it just doesnt exist at all
there are no walgreens/safeways that are open 24/7 where thy can casually go to..they may be stuck behind some rock with gunfire and they get a care package in the field
how about hope..... remembering that others have not forgotten them give them hope to go on and get thru their time so that they have hope of seeing their families again..So many get Dear John Letters saying so sorry I am leaving you ! |

to keep them sane. a package of familiar things has a way of making a connection to a soldiers civilian life. |

Well how about the fact that they usually have their paychecks sent home and have no means to buy what they need?? Or the fact that things "from home" mean more? |

I only send care packages to people I know, because I care about them. To me, nothing says "I appreciate all you've done for the country" like not knowing who a person is, what they've done or why they chose to serve. |

ill see ya soon :)

um...is there even a reason not to?? these men and women are risking their lives every single day just to keep YOU safe...i think thats reason enough
at the moment i have two men i know who are risking their lives over in iraq right now. i know how hard it is for them to leave their loved ones. they both have children and a wife back here in the states. |

Well, one thing I always considered is that (usually) they have no access to internet or the regular media outlet sources that we do on a daily basis. Therefore, they can't really keep up with current events. The bigger things - i.e. elections, financial crisis - I would imagine they hear about, but might like to really know more details. Not to mention - there are females in the military that might like gossip rags and such! Guys do too even though they won't admit it readily!
Also - it's nice to receive "luxuries" that you can't get being so far away - like your wife's specialty brownies or a special brand of soda they enjoy. |
