If 135,000 troops can't do the job, I don't know what can. I don't think it's a lack of troops that's causing the problem, I think it's the wrong strategy. More money and more troops aren't always the answer, as we learned in Vietnam. |

We have plenty there already and it's not the right solution.
I support the war (as far as putting my life on the line), but this was just a stupid solution that wasn't thought out.
Things need to change over there. For one, they need to ban all media.
Not saying I don't want to go, I do. I could get out of it minutes by contracting to ROTC anytime I want, but I still don't think this was the correct solution. |

In the first Gulf War, senior Bush decided not to invade Iraq because he knew what would happen - what is actually happening today (shia and sunni butchering each other). He was afraid that the US would get caught up in that!
What is happening today in Iraq is a settling of scores dating back almost to the beginning of Islam when the Shia and Sunni split. NO ONE on earth can or will be able to resolve this - why do you think that the US sending more troops there can stop it?
More troops will mean more dead and wounded US servicemen and women. |

Setting aside the simple fact that our army and marine corp forces are already at the breaking point, and unreported desertion has increased dramatically this year, what would be the point?
The claims that securing the capital will have a calming effect do not seem to be paying off. In fact, the capital is nowhere near secure.
And the Iraqi police and army are years away from being prepared for any meaningful hand over of cities. Every effort to date has collapsed.
Let's say he gets every troop available on the ground and manages to create a short term period of calm. Have you any idea how long the insurgents can hold out? We're talking decades, folks. These are long term thinkers.
We could stay there 20 years. The second we leave Iraq, now or later, it will fall. |

Because the problem isn't the number of soldiers we have there. The problem is that we're dealing with a tribal society with no sense of national cohesion that happens to be in the midst of a civil war. Our presence isn't doing anything but making the conflict more drawn-out, and no one even knows what "victory" would look like there. Sending more American soldiers to that slaughter is nothing but a terrific waste of life. We lost the moment our President decided to get us involved in that pit, and it's time to recognize that we don't have to keep suffering as a country because of his folly. |

Because every authority except for him and his administration has said that it is the opposite of what should be done.
The American public is ever more overwhelmingly in favor of starting to leave Iraq. Source: 2006 midterm election exit polls.
The soldiers in Iraq, when surveyed by Stars and Stripes (liberal media?) said by a 72%-23% margin that we should leave Iraq within a year. The poll was taken a year ago. http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=34538&archive=true
The nonpartisan, unpaid Iraq Study Group appointed by Bush delivered 73 unanimous recommendations, the opposite of which course he has decided to pursue. http://www.usip.org/isg/
Because the Saudi King told the full assembly of the Arab League last month that the US occupation of Iraq is illegitimate, and the UN Secretary Generals have determined the same.
How many reasons do you want? |

Because he doesn't know what he's doing, several 4-star generals have recently said as much, and all he is doing is getting good troops killed. |

Why send lambs to the slaughter house? This was and never will be an American war.
Been there done that, The Military is mostly used for political reasons not necessary in the best interest of the country. |

5000 000 troops will not be able to solve the problem.
This is a unjust war. One one ever own an unjust war.

Before we send our troops in Iraq, we should patrol our country first. We have unsolved issues here that needs critical attention. We are not the world police. And if we think we are, then we are not doing our job; Twin Towers, LA levees, Pentagon, Mexico border, should I say more?... Before we even think of meddling with other countries problems, we need to first find remedies for our countries problems. Besides, we can't send more troops in Iraq without guaranteeing our troops' safety i.e. body armors, rifles, plated vehicles, and such. Our troops should be A last resort only. |

Its because the problem of insurgency in Iraq will never go away.
The terrorist groups have an inexhaustible supply of recruits. Kill one, and the groups will just recruit another. Its a never ending cycle. And these fanatical groups are willing to sacrifice as many lives as they could.
3,000 plus US troops have already died in Iraq, and the insurgency problem is not even 0.000001 percent solved.
Besides, it is useless to fight an enemy who has nothing to lose. |
