Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN) ALSO hosts military guests and families as a show of support... Kentucky IS a pretty damned patriotic State (sorry, Commonwealth !!)
Louisville, Kentucky is home to the Kentucky Air National Guard's 123d Airlift Wing, flying C-130's... U.S. Army Armor Center and School at Fort Knox is nearby also.
Is there some unknown rule about the Military not being permitted at a public event ?? |

Two reasons:
1. The military was invited as part of the ceremony. It is not uncommon for large sporting events. Some are honored for recent service and the military may provide a color guard.
2. Security. If the event was designated a national or state security event by the President or Governor the military, most likely the National Guard, would have been on hand to lend assistance to the local, state and federal authorities with such things as communications and WMD response capabilities. |

they are there every year. not always in drones, but definetly there for security and because they are invited. military officials and whomever they bring with them are in attendance at most largely attended sporting/social events where you see famous, or A list peoples. |

I doubt that there was a military presence, as the military cannot provide police services by law, except in times of insurrection or invasion.
However there is usually a military color guard at major events, or demonstrations such as the Army parachute team, USAF Thunderbirds, etc. |
