Why was this loudmouth crying?

He was at the Burger King yesterday sitting all alone sobbing in his french fries. I asked him what was wrong and he said he couldn't stand his life. "I've come to realize that I've been a coward all my life, and now I'm too old to change it", he said. He told me that he used to try to console himself with the fact that he was once in the service, but finds it harder and harder not to accept the fact that he was a failure there. Now he realizes men much better than himself are fighting a war that is too frightening for him to even consider. He said "Now I'm just a lonely old man and there's nothing I can do to make myself feel better except try to demean those guys who are fighting". He told me he likes to target marines because they represent all he could never be. I felt sorry for him but couldn't think of a thing to say. What would you tell him?

I'd tell him that you're never too old to change. It's a lot easier now with all the adult education and everything. I'd have probably chatted to him and help him sort his life out.

But seriously you are a good person for caring and I would like to think that I would do the same thing. I agree that this is a hard time over there and that our forces have a tuff time ahead of them. So we should support bringing them home slowly but surely, and think about Afgans

I would tell him to seek help. I would also say that his serviing before is great and things do get harder to do as we get older.

The fact that he can recognize why he's baggin' service personnel is the first step toward healing - like getting past denial. He should seek therapy to help resolve it.
