Why would anyone join the Army today?
Find answers to your legal question.

Why would anyone join the Army today?

Would you join the army when you know our country is at war and the chances of getting killed are pretty high? Theres other ways of getting free college, but putting your life on the line for a war thats being mislead is not an option.

I have asked my young cousins that same question. I think they just don't realize this whole war thing is not NORMAL. That their predecessors did not have the certainty of going into battle. They are too young to truly understand the risk and what they will have to experience

I resent your question and consider you a coward.

So THIS is how you thank those who are risking their lives so that you can sit on a computer and post nonsense?

THIS is how you support the best military on earth?

Does it occur to you that some people act out of a sense of honor, out of a sense of obligation? Thank God that people like that still exist, and that they can believe that defending ones country and furthering democracy are still important values.

Meanwhile, you focus on "getting free college." Shame.

I enlisted right before 9/11 and was in basic training when the towers fell. I just returned three weeks ago from Iraq after being away from my wife for 14 months. My son was born while I was on leave, luckily I got to be home for that. I would have loved to been around to see my son for th first 6 months of his life. But I have an obligation to the American people and to others as well. The Iraqi people need our help. Not everyone is as bad as the media portrays them. Everyone deserves the same freedoms we have. If they can't win the fight on their own, then we should help them. I am proud of what I do. I am proud of the other people who are trying to make the world a better place, FOR EVERYONE. I am sick of lil cry babies worried about getting hurt. There is a price for everything. Sometimes it takes men to pay that price, while the women sit at home and worry. If you think there are a lot of americans that have died in Iraq, do a search and find out how many Iraqi's have lost their lives. People killed while attending church, or sitting down to eat in their own homes. Dead because of radicals who think God will reward them for killing people who don't believe the same things they do. How would you like to be persecuted for believing in something that someone else didn't?

What good is Character? Obviously you are devoid of this or you would not make the statement.

Citizenship, Compassion, Cooperation, Courage, Faith, Health and Fitness, Honesty, Perseverance, Positive Attitude, Resourcefulness, Respect, Responsibility. Character can be defined as the collection of core values possessed by an individual that leads to moral commitment and action. Character is "values in action."

The ONLY rational reason to join the military now, at a time of war is to serve your country in the MOST NOBLE WAY POSSIBLE, by risking your life. For those that do, I thank you.

The question should be, what is going through the minds of all those soldiers in Iraq who joined the military for a quick buck or an cheap education, never thinking that we would be in another war. Those soldiers have the wrong attitude and could get the people who belong on the lines, protecting our way of life, injured or killed.

You certainly aren't the world's greatest hero asking a stupid question like that.

I would join the UK army if i could get into the Infantry. It takes a special type of person to be willing to risk their life to defend their country, protect people and be a humanitarian. Besides, not all military jobs are on the front line.

Wow... This is DEFINATELY one of the most IGNORANT questions that I have ever seen posted on yahoo answers...

Let me start off by saying that I DID NOT join because of "free college". My family is very pro-military and not only did I want to continue on with that tradition, but I am very patriotic and when I was able to enlist so that I could help out with the war, I did.

My main goal in life was to have people respect me by what I had chosen to do (which obviously you don't) and to be able to bring our fallen soldiers home to their families with the utmost dignity and respect. I never have been able to understand, nor do I think that I will ever be able to understand the reason that people like you put me and my fellow peers down by serving and protecting people like you and your rights to say what you have just said. In my eyes, you are no better than any terrorist that we have ever had to fight against....sad that people like you are on our own turf...

Yes I would join again. The people who join up keeps you safe and free. So you need to thank them for putting there lives on the line for you.

our citizens don't join the army just to get "free college" they do it because its a strong career that they WANT to do, you obviously don't know what the military is about, its about doing a job that is noble and you can be proud of, not just another paper pusher in a cubicle, just because your a Bush hater doesn't mean you have to rip our military, my husband is in the Air Force and loves it, he wants to stay in till retirement, he's been to iraq and afghanistan, and is glad he went, he didn't join for the "free college" he joined because it was a career he wanted to experience, plus what do you think is the main reason countries have militaries=for wars!

I don't have an answer for you, but the thousands of men and women who enlist EVERY MONTH (the REAL heroes, not you) may be able to tell you. I did my time and finished up with a year in Iraq so that 'misguided' people like yourself have the freedom to say whatever you want instead of worrying about whether or not you'll be killed today.
Not everyone joins for the free college, some actually believe in what we're doing over here.

I don't know what world you're from, but you're not THIS 'world's greatest hero'.

To a soldier, "freedom isn't free" is not a slogan.... but a creed. There are things in this world that is more importaint than one's self. Unfortunately, some of the best things about being an American is taken for granted. What is it worth to you to give a entire country the chance to vote in a democratic election for the first time ever. What price for freedom?!! Our young men and women are paying for it with their lives. is it worth it? Ask a parent of a soldier. Ask them and then realize why we can't "cut and run". they paid the price..... let's get what is due them.

I am ready to go if it means I must, but due to reasons, I cant just walk in and go anymore. But damn right! I have no fear to have to go and help in anyway they needed/ I could. Soldiers on my side are all I have that keeps me enjoying the freedoms and safety I have. But the men and women we have doing this I feel 1000% confident in...they are 2nd to none. They Rock!

Hoot-Hoot to all those in 95b MP corps. Salute to all you's out there whever you are...thanks for your service!
