Why would people say avoid military men?

I'm going to be very honest, and I have spent four years in the military. For the most part, that is true. I have had a lot of friends who cheated on their spouses several times, and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. This always bothered me, because it wasn't the way I was raised, but it was like a joking matter at work that when they were "detached" or doing short training missions like 2 or 3 weeks long, it was their goal to shack up with some woman because there wasn't really any chance of their wives finding out. Of course I had a significant amount of friends who had wives that had cheated on them while they were away, although it wasn't nearly as much as the guys. I was Navy, and yes I went to strip clubs sometimes, got drunk and did things I regret. Although I was single for the majority of my enlistment (I just got out) I never once was unfaithful. There isn't a whole lot to do sometimes but drink and go after women. I mean think about it like this: You're holed up on a ship for 6 to 9 months at a time. You hit port, and you are going nuts to find some women and do some drinking. Like I said, not everyone is like this, but I would say most are, and they'll/we'll do anything to trick you into thinking otherwise. I'll put it to you this way: I would be very uneasy and skeptical if I had a daughter (which I dont) or better yet my sister were dating someone in the military.

Half of the men in society are just generally like that, military has nothing to do with it.

There are some great guys in the military and there are some not great guys in the military.

WOW. it all depends on the man. you need to first find a man that will treat you right and has values. in any occupation. military is no different than any other profession. we are on the road alot. but if a man is going to cheat he is going to cheat. military or not. but if you find you a good one, being part of the military family will be the best experience of your life and you will be taken care of. hope to have helped.

In general, yes but not individually. My army sgt. nephew had a lot of contempt for some of his peers who married women just to have someone to be their house maid while they acted like frat boys on deployment. On the other side, he said there were others who were great family men.

The younger they are, the less likely they are mature enough to marry. They have to get the boldness out of their system. My father returned from combat in WW2 a very mature 23 year old, ready for university and marriage. He and my mom lasted 60 years until his death.

I married a military man. Maybe Air Force men are different.

Before I met him, I would never have dated a military man, because I couldn't deal with the idea of him being over seas.

I know a lot of men in the military & not all of them are like that.Most of them are very nice & respectful,the ones I have met anyway.Don't get me wrong there are a few guys out there that fit that catagory,but in general,no they are not like that..

While you may find some that are little bit like that ...I also know some guys that can work HARD for a whole year and decline temptation. Including me.
Then go home to their wifes.

So just like in the civilian world you have all kinds. You just can't stereotype.

My husband is in the military, but we were also together before he ever joined. I think you are taking this stereotype to heart a little too much. I don't think it's the military that make men dogs, some men are just that way and it does not matter what their job is. There are great men in the military just like there are in every other profession, you just have to get through the pigs to find them.

What's really funny...is alot of them that go in NOT MARRIED want to come out && get married but several aren't faithful at all. It could be because they spend so much time around strip clubs && all of the crap. Some of them are also freaking pigs before they go in && just get worse && better at it before they get out.

Not all military men are horrible pigs though...just some.

Military life is not easy. Military men do tend to party a lot but that does not mean that all of them are dogs. You are just as likely to get cheated on by someone not in the military than in the military. Now with that said, they probably told you that because it is very common for a service member to cheat on their spouse but it is just as common if not more common that the spouse cheat. Being away from your spouse for so long can be very difficult if you don't get yourself actively involved with activities and get a good support system. Also it is helpful to make sure you don't put yourself in situations that will lead to cheating. The same goes for the service member.

It's just that military men are a small population of men that are studied. Men are men. They get together and act like men. All men are different, and I take offense to that. Doctors, lawyers, and congressmen all do the same thing.

And they spend most of deployment WORKING!

They tend to be poor and stressed. And when they get a weekend you know they are gonna party. The military officers in my family are as straight up and down as you will find, though.
