Why would you get out of the military?

What are reasons to get out vs. staying in for the job security, benefits, and retirement?

Well, I am retiring, getting too old to keep up with the new kids coming in. I've done my 20, almost. If you want to get out of the military, make sure you have a good plan, don't just get out because your contract is up. In this economy, you must have a plan, go back to school or have a job lined up, don't go in blind.

I got out because, while I enjoyed my time and love the guys I worked with, the lifestyle is pretty tough. I don't want to say anything bad about the military because I love it and it made me who I am today. With that said it is very constrictive life style. Your constantly told what to do, treated like a kid and constantly go crappy places and get shot at. It is nice staying in and having a guaranteed paycheck and all that, but for what you do you get paid pretty crappy. The military for a career is for some people its just not for others. Really depends on the job you have and your personality.

Simple...depending on your education and/or skill level you will:

1) Earn much more money with much more benefits
2) Have much more free time
3) Can actually have a life and family

The military is only good in the initial years. As a an 17-20 year old or older with little to no work experience or advanced degree, you do earn more money in the military than you would in the civilian world but keep in mind that you're basically working 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The same applies for college grads who become officers.

Once you gain a skill though, get some work experience, in about 5+ years, it becomes a "rip off". The pay is far less than you would make in the civilian world.

If I were to join, I'd be getting out because I have other places I want to go in life. Other jobs I want to experience you know that kind of jazzy stuff

If you found out, the war you were fighting for had no meaning, that if it was out of pure greed.
