Will Iraq continue to be democratic once we leave?
Find answers to your legal question.

Will Iraq continue to be democratic once we leave?

It would be nice if Iraq wanted democracy, but I fear that it doesn't, and that they'll keep killing our troops until we leave. When we do leave, they'll probably have a civil war and end up with the same kind of government that they had before. A Saddam type of government. Is there any real hope for democracy in Iraq?

PS - I pray for world peace, but I'm not sure that what we're doing over there is helping.

Occupations always fail. Bush is too stupid to realize this. Israel has occupied gaza and the west bank for 39 years, and it hasn't gotten any better.

China occupies tibet, it is still a disaster for both sides.

iraq's civilization has been around long before the USA even existed. Iraq wants to be free of occupation and to have self-determination. It has no interest in the USA forcing an unwanted government on them.

Look at it this way, if iraq invaded and occupied the USA and installed a pro-iraqi government, would you accept it?

kristycordeaux
No. All they understand is dictatorship.

First off, let me educate you a little bit, okay? If the Iraqis didn't want freedom, and democracy, they wouldn't of came out in droves to vote, in the face of terrorists threatening them, and their families. Some walked as far as 13 miles to vote! Second, we're not at war with the Iraqis, it's terrorists that wish to oppress the Iraqis the way Saddam did. Lastly, if we leave before we complete the mission in Iraq, there WILL be another government like Saddams, because the terrorists would make sure of it.

what do you mean by democratic .
The USA certainly is not democratic if that was what you were referring to
Christian democratic is another way of saying fascism ,
only Scandinavia ,Holland and South Africa ,can be called democratic countries in the truer sense of the word.
the Dutch coming the closest with their Social Democracy.

NO they will not! Don't even expect it! Bush has now changed his reason for going into Iraq! It is now "to give them a chance" to develop a democracy!! What does that tell you?

Did Kuwait ever change to a Democracy??? I don't think so!

And who wants a Democracy anyway, it is a terrible form of government! We aren't even a democracy!

there is no chance at all that iraq will be democratic .

Doubt it, sorry to say.

No exit strategy will be able to efficiently fuel a fire for a self sustaining democracy in iraq

The United States is not a Democracy. It is a Democratic Republic where the many vote for the few who represent them. In a true Democracy everyone is represented which might be a bit difficult to do considering the population here. As I see it we do not actually have people representing us in the government but a group of people who represent the rich, the empowered and business. I see the US as more of a capitalistic society. So is the question will Iraq achieve what we do not have here now or in the future or will it become Capitalistic like we have become? Iraq is a nation carved out of many nations and forced to become one. It has had a history of uprisings and overthrows of power. One can only hope for peace and stability for the sake of that region and those people but as long as people push hatred of differences in others and try to control freedoms then I suppose it will be none the less. No Iraq is not and will not be a Democracy ever I believe the US is trying to make it a Democratic Republic because the other systems did not work hoping it will help them become more stable like we are for the sake of the world and the middle east. I just hope our country can remember that and keep it instituted here also.

My Lord
Nope

No, they'll end up with a much worse government than they had before, because it will be controlled by religious extremists. Brutal as Saddam was, at least he was secular and wasn't in any hurry to help out the other despots in the region. Now, all the brutal dictators will be working together, in the name of Allah. While Iran gets the bomb, and cozies right up to all that chaos in their neighbor and former enemy, Iraq. Great.

If we leave now, no.

If we stay the way we did in Korea, maybe.

Dear Avanti...I have a problem with your use of the word CONTINUE as if they're a democracy now...Also America going there wasn't part of the solution but part of the problem, in fact a large part of it. Having said this, I also pray for world peace, but I doubt if it will come when people are sooooooo ignorant of what's happening and war mongers keep getting elected.

The government will be worse than Saddam's ever was if we leave today. It will be similar to Iran.

You have to have faith that that system will not hold itself together.
