Will be 37 weeks pregnant when husband ETS's out of the ARMY, how can I keep my coverage for the birth?

My husband is ETSing in June of 2009. My Due date is July 11th,2009. We were told by tricare they will not cover us after his ETS date of June 21, being this is a pre exsisting condition insurance companies will not take us on, and on top of it, it is a complicated pregnancy- im looking at possible induction the day is he "out". Does anyone know any way I am able to recieve the medical care for atleast the birth of the baby? I have researced other options like - TAMP, we dont qualify, and the COBRA program *extendng your medical insurance for 3 months* is almost 2,000. plus a 80/20 copay. Which i find ridiculous im not being covered for an addional 3 weeks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry honey but you are SOL. If your husband is not in the Army then they don't owe you a dime towards medical care. If you can't afford to give birth to your child then he should obviously stay in the Army.

Why would they cover you for free when your husband as already gotten out?

If you can't afford insurance than maybe you should look into public aid. Or your husband might want to extend his contract.

You are having a baby and your husband is getting out of the military?

If you need the Tri-care insurance and financial stability, he needs to stay in.

If he's not banned from reenlistment I suggest your husband march his happy a-s into the reenlistment NCOs office. Now is not the time to be ETS out of the Army. Especially w/ a baby on the way.

My recomendation is to ask your husband to extend his service for a few months or reenlist so the birth is covered. Otherwise, the coverage will end after midnight on his ETS date. The only conditions covered after a service members ETS date are conditions caused by his or her service. I don't know what his post-military plans are with him ETSing in two months but with your current situation it doesn't sound too good. Although I don't know what your plans are; I can tell you from experience with other former Soldiers that ETSing close to a childbirth without a plan on the outside is NOT a good idea.

You'll have to check it out with tricare - from their website:

Is transitional coverage available? Certain military members who are separating from active duty and their family members may be eligible for 180 days of transitional benefits under the "Transitional Assistance Management Program" (TAMP). For more information about TAMP eligibility, sponsors or family members may visit the TRICARE Web site at www.tricare.osd.mil or contact their TRICARE Service Center representative. A list of regional toll-free numbers is available at the TRICARE web site.

That is a tough one the only suggestion I have is to see if he could extend for 6mo. Talk to his command and explain...why is he getting out? cant he just change his MOS. If it is a complicated preg. there is always the chance it could be a complicated birth. What if the baby needs extensive medical care....I mean kids can be very expensive....maybe an extention or a re-up in a different position is a really good idea, Personally I don't think getting out is a good idea even if it means a deployment. At least his family would be taken care of while he is gone. And welfare medical isn't even an option any more now. Good luck I will say my prayers for you. Hey he could try to get a recruiting position. or join National Guard and see if there is an active duty special work position available! That would give him the same pay and full benefits and he would stay in his State.!!

Tricare will absolutely not cover you.

Pretty poor planning on your husbands part... is this a voluntary separation?

$2,000 plus a copay will be far more expensive than going to the county hospital for care.

Don't write stuff on the internet if you can not back it up. Yes you can receive benefits. If You Separate from Active Duty Typically, if you separate from active duty during your pregnancy, your TRICARE coverage ends and you would be able to purchase the Continued Health Care Benefit Program for temporary, transitional health care. However, in some cases, you may qualify for continued coverage. If you separate under honorable conditions, you may qualify for continued coverage at an MTF if approved by the MTF Commander before you separate. If you qualify, the care is limited to prenatal care, delivery and follow-up care as needed for up to six weeks after the birth. Care not related to pregnancy will be your responsibility. Contact your local MTF for more details before you separate. You may qualify for 180-days of transitional health care through the Transitional Assistance Management Program. If you qualify, you could re-enroll in your Prime option use TRICARE Standard and Extra. http://tricare.mil/mybenefit/ProfileFilter.do;jsessionid=TClCp3MxQG4hTHsnxxkxP1GWMvxntwQLcF222bMq1nMlC9f8CGMT!1052450122?country=Korea%2C+South&plan=TRICARE+Prime+Overseas&status=Active+Duty+Service+Member&puri=%2Fhome%2FLifeEvents%2FNewbornAdoption%2FMaternityCare
