Actually it is possible to be a Sergeant with 18 mos of service (college grad comes in as SPEC4 in combat arms low points for promotion mos, most likely 350, and is given a TIS waiver and promoted). But hey there you need to refer to AR 40-501 chapter 3 and see if your condition is unfitting.
I also suggest that you visit this site:
http://www.pebforum.com/forum.php and post your concerns there.
I can tell you that if your condition is listed in AR 40-501 ch.3 as failing retention standards you are most likely going to be facing a MEB/PEB and considered medically unacceptable. It is important to predict what will happen so you can maximize your case for the best results (getting out of the Army with medical retirement/being found fit for duty). I suggest you repost your question on the forum I provided in the link. Good luck.
EDIT:
Don't talk to a NCO/Senior NCO/Officer because most likely they don't know what they are talking about. 99 percent of the military is ignorant in regards to the PDES (Physical Disability Evaluation System) and it's possible results. Like I said goto the forum above, it is run by a former JAG attorney and current Veteran's Disability Lawyer. Your chain of command most likely knows nothing but hearsay about this process. |

If it is bad enough to prevent you from doing your job then the Army will put you through a medical evaluation board. The MEB will decide whether or not you are going to be able to stay on active duty and/or whether you can stay in your current MOS.
I believe that your desire to stay in will be taken into account, but the bottom line is that if you're not medically fit then they won't be able to keep you.
Either way, good luck to you. |

When you got diagnosed with your illness, usually the doctor will recommend treatment for you.If it's that bad,you will go to a medical board for evaluation to see if you can stay in.,but of course you knew that. There are non- combatant positions in the Army to keep you in.There are Iraqi veterans serving that are missing limbs.Talk to a medical counselor or re-up rep.good luck. |

Did you have a Kidney Biopsy? That is the only way they can for sure say that you have what you have. It NORMALLY only occurs in adults over 40.
Were you tested for Hepatitis, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol & high levels of Protein in your urine?
It looks like this can be an on going disease even if and after a transplant (if needed).
There is a good chance that you will be medically discharged.
On the bright side, you would get disability pay and you would be able to continue with your medical needs from the VA.
I think only the doctors and the Army will be able to tell you for sure. My answer and everyone else is just guessing and giving their opinion. |

You are asking in the wrong place. Wait until it happens, talk to ur CO or ur Senior NCO. It''s not the end of ur career. If they discharge u, they should run with the responsibility. I have a friend, was in the navy, 3 years of contract, he got hypertension and an apoplexy, they gave him 100% disability. Don't worry, just ask to the people that really knows... |

I was in a unit with a lad who had donated one kidney to his mother . he was classed as fully fit . They might physicly down grade you for a period of time until you are well ...
thats British Army by the way . Just incase your US they may take a different view? |

you will be med boarded. if deemed fit for full duty you can stay in. if not they will either discharge you immediately or allow you to finish out your current contract and not permit you to re enlist. |

Actually JOKER., I was an E-5 in the Navy after only 1 year and 7 months in the service. I took my first E-6 exam at 3 and a half years and almost made it. So, not only can you be an E-5 in 4 years but it's possible to make it to E-6. You know NOTHING about the military and obviously haven't served JOKER.
I don't think they're gonna kick you out for that bro. |
