I think it all depends. If the Sunni and Shi'ite division gets any worse and civil war breaks out you can bet that more troops are gonna be sent in. If things start to calm down and finnally iraq can be trusted on its own our boys and girls will be coming home.
but the way things are going im guessing the numbers are gonna stay pretty much the same |

Decrease. The surge is unsustainable due to troop rotation requirements. We've sent a lot of people over there for more than 18 months already, and we simply cannot sustain having this many people there. If troops were typically spending more that two years at a time in Iraq it would become impossible to retain anyone in the Army, and many politicians would capitalize on it. |

I'd like to see a peaceful resolution, but Im afraid more troops need to be sent to make this work properly...

It will decrease but slowly. The Bush Administration is completely committed to a military solution in Iraq and the Congress is unwilling to use the power of the purse to force any significant reduction in US forces or money spent on contractors/mercenaries. No real change is even possible until after January 2009 with a new Administration and new Congress. They will have to deal with the mess left behind by the past 8 years of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the rest. |

After being in Iraq i feel that we will be there for some time to come, and feel that we will decrease in Iraq but increase in Kuwqat just in case of any up riseing. |

US military presence in Iraq will decrease slightly as a result of continuing political pressure at home. Unfortunately, the US administration does not see the wisdom of a major withdrawal and as a result will remain involved for the foreseeable future in the futile attempt to close the Pandora's box it has opened. |

At present, the U.S. military presence in Iraq will decrease overall. While some Army Brigades have already begun to be deployed back the the United States, other Brigades in Iraq will be sent to replace those deployed Brigades. The timetable for reducing the number of Brigades from approximately 25 to 15 is from now until Summer 2008, if all goes well with the Iraqi government. |

The Troops will increase in 2008.We started sending our troops in and all the deathes would be for nothing ,when we pull out .We need to finish the job started or it will be just like another Vietnam .This war is not over ,when the troops leave it will just begin . |

The presence of American forces in Iraq will start decreaseing about the middle of 2008 as Iraq Millitary gets stronger and can hold their own against or can beat the terroist. We just have to hold on long enough for Iraq to come up to strength. Iraq will be a great presence in the Middle East with their coming freedom. |

US military presence will decrease in Iraq in 2008 because conditions on the ground are improving. Violence is decreasing, as evidenced by civilian and military death counts to date as compared to last year. There has been a dramatic decrease in homicide bombings, roadside bombings and murder in many of the provinces and security in those same provinces has been turned over to Iraqi military and/or police since "the surge" began. To deny obvious progress on the ground is to deny kudos to the US military, Iraqi forces, and the ex-insurgents who have now turned against al-queda in favor of supporting US-led efforts to stabilize Iraq. There is no longer any evidence to support claims of a "civil war" in Iraq. What is left to do is pressure the Iraqi government to get their act together and agree on oil-revenue sharing, claims to land, political leadership, shared responsibility of provinces, etc. The US-led coalition has given the Iraqi people a once in a million lifetimes opportunity.............let's not let American politics strip that opportunity away! In other words, let's slowly withdraw troops from Iraq as security conditions and the advice of those in command permit, not as politicians in Washington demand! |

It will DECREASE due to the end of the Surge, and the realization that our involvement in IRAQ has been an unmitigated disaster wasting far too many service personnel and far too much of our national treasury when we have so many needs domestically.
And it has resulted in a disastrous reduction of our military capabilities both in terms of destroyed or damaged equipment and a hearty increase in the ranks of early resignations from within the Army's officer corps.
Another case of Dumb, Dumber, & Dumbest, or should it be, Rumsfeld, Cheney, & Bush. !!
And why, should we be building a 14 Building EMBASSY ? |

Decrease.
Congress does not have funds to send more troops.
Only special forces should stay there. There are enough problems here, to face.
Let us share the war burdens with the rest of the world, especially the muslim nations.
let the new president elected in Nov.2008 decide this out.Presently, troops surge has been voted out.
With continued prayers and hope, with continued U.S. troop withdrawal, the enemy will weaken, while the Iraqi forces will rise to victory, because of the growing numbers of recruits from the sunni tribes, and gradual return of the iraqi"refugees", and the change of hearts in the country itself, which can only be the work of the Almighty, Who is working for world peace, all the time
The National Guards must stay HOME, and finish school, since these youths are our promising future leaders. We cannot afford to destroy their minds , hearts, and their dreams with this war They've seen enough, they've suffered enough, they only have one life to live.Let them live !That is their right!WE CHOOSE LIFE, NOT DEATH.
(Deuteronomy 30:19 )
WELCOME HOME, HEROES!
Peace up!
Whoever wants troops surge should go fight in iraq!NOW!~ |

The military will increase in the number of American servicemen lives we lose to violent death in Iraq. And will probably increase in the number of men and women we send to Iraq be killed or maimed.
This administration will not try to make a peaceful agreement in this country as this administration has revenge on their minds, not the betterment of Iraq or the U.S.
Question : Who is making money thru hiring private contractors i.e (Halliburton and Blackwater) Where is all the unaccounted for money spent on this attack on Iraq? |

As a member of the military who is deploying again next year I will say slow but sure yes. Buzz on the inside indicates show of force or worse for Iran. What better springboard than pre-positioning next door in Iraq. Could be the answer to the "million dollar" question of why are we still in Iraq? Believe me I hope I am at least wrong in part. Everyone really needs to think next NOV. I.V.A.W. |

After spending time in the Middle East, including Iraq, I have contradictory beliefs of what should be done there. I believe that our military presence will and should decrease in Iraq. Part of this will be due to the increase of contracting for some duties currently performed by military personnel. The other part of the decrease will be due to pressure from the US public to bring home more of our troops.
The sad fact is that many more people are going to die before this war is over. Many of those are good Iraqi citizens who are now assisting coalition forces. |

Unfortunately I believe the answer is "Yes". When the government says that they are decreasing the number of soldiers in Iraq, it isn't as cut and dry as it seems. For instance, when they deploy a UAV [spy drone] that is the equivalent of 20-100 soldiers.
So when they tell us they are sending 50,000 troops home, that could be BUSH TALK for 500- 750 UAV's are being sent home for repairs or decommissioning. Not to mention all of our wounded soldiers out there that can't fight. They should have brought them home a long time ago.
Our numbers will increase, and this world will be making some drastic changes over the next 10 years. |

I believe it all depends on the status of the pursuit of the Iraqi oil fields. If this administration & the oil conglomerates have concrete contracts on the Iraqi oil concessions then we will withdraw to the point of only enough troops remaining in Iraq to protect the oil interest. As you can tell, I am not a supporter of bush & his special interest war!!!! |

I think that the war will continue until the People of the United States stand together. We need to bond! I am afraid the patriotic spirit of America is gone. The spirit of fighting for what WE believe in is gone. We fight for what a few believe in. We should take pride in our beautiful country, We let the gas prices get out of hand. We let our brothers and sisters go to war. We the people of America need to stand up and fight! We need to boycott! We need to protest! We need the truth! Our blood is being shed! Please wake up...

I belive it will increase... our Politicans have no idea what theya re doing or how to get out of this mess without " Loosing face". It would seem we are in another viet nam type conflict where theres no end in sight ... so the answer is yes we have no choice but to build up our forces there |

I believe the United States needs to finish what it started, meaning that I believe our presense will increase. If we fail to follow through with our beginning objectives, then the lives of our loved ones that have been lost will have been in vain. This country was built with the blood and the values of the american people. Our values are tested here, our devotion to those values is tested here. |

There is no way this president will ever bring the troops home for any reason. He declared years ago he was a "war president" and he hasn't let himself down. Even when he has to admit Iran had no weapons he still says threateningly "No options are off the table". Why are we in Iraq still anyway no weapons of the kind we were told of and also that they knew right were they were? Saddam is history, so why are we there? There can be one answer and one answer only OIL. |

Decrease?! Fie!!! US will keep sending soldiers because they don't want to admit the fact that the war is, in the first place, unjust. Pulling out will mean acceptance of defeat. Yet, these people, thinking that DOLLARS and advanced weaponry can do everything, forgeting that they are fighting people who are willing to blow up themselves alongside their 'enemies' in the name of religion. They will send in more troops to replace the dead (let it not be!), until they eventually lose the backing of their allies. And the Middle East will finally find solution to its own problem. It's even beyond the UN! The so-called veto-wielding members now only use their positions to advance themselves economically and diplomatically. |

If I am asked to foretell the future, I may as well make it bright. Even as humanitarian and reconstruction aid flows into Iraq from our contrite and brokenhearted country for the crime of attacking them unprovoked, following our misbegotten leaders into an empire building, oil seeking war upon their land and people, our troops, including my son, will be back home where they belong. Almost 4 thousand of our own chidren will have been sacrificed, and many thousands injured for this scapegoating of Iraq for the hideous crime of a handful of freaks upon the World Trade Center. Ron Paul is President, and this latest experiment in rule by the people is restored to it's original glory. |

The U.S. military presence in Iraq will most likely not decrease in 2008. Why? The answer is simple, we've made an obligation to a people who at the current moment in time, cannot protect themselves. Perhaps if security goals are met over the next year, the withdrawal process will begin. I do not see this happening however, as Islamic fundamentalist groups have showed time and time again, they will bide their time and when we let our guard down they will reclaim those areas. Military force must be maintained in Iraq, in spite of the many woes this war has caused for U.S. citizens. We need to set guidelines for the Iraqis, give them two more years of guaranteed American support. Then leave them to their own devices, let the Iraqis step up and take control of their own country...they are already taking the initiative, they just need some time and investment. War is not pretty, it's not pleasant, and it's not wanted. Yet we now have a moral obligation do what is considered right, after all we started this mess, now we have to finish it. We are supposed to set an example as the world's greatest nation. |

U.S. military presence in Iraq will decrease. U.S. contractor presence in Iraq will dramatically increase. This allows the political parties to show the decrease in the number of "troops" but will allow a more broad reaching arm for the State Department and the Department of Defense. |
