Will the military accept a degree from devry?

I recommend earning your degree from ASU. It's widely recognized, domestically and internationally, whereas DeVry is not. Also, while it's true you can graduate from DeVry sooner, will you be getting real value for your money with regards to your education? I think graduating from ASU will arm you with the knowledge to be more successful in the Marines than DeVry can offer you. IMO.

Note: Online school degrees are accepted if the school is accredited by an accreditation authority and recognized by the US Dept. of Education. For example if you earn a degree with University of Phoenix, an online school, you can receive a commission and become an officer in the US military.

But hey, you should have a good conversation with the Marine recruiter to get his official assessment of the DeVry degree so you can make a solid decision. BTW: also talk with the Air Force, Navy and Army recruiters so you can get another perspective on your idea.

Depends on the Degree you want to get.

Devry only has 3 BS degrees that are accredited and then only at certain locations.

Id stick with a real university.

James S is wrong. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from DeVry. I never took an online class, and the only reason it takes 3 years instead of 4 is because you go to school year round instead of taking summers off. Its also a bit more accelerated. As for the quality of my education... I have found in my 4 years since graduation that I am better prepared for the industry than many of the people I know who graduated from big named universities.

You know what, State Universities are favored more in terms of school credits or in the military than going to small private colleges. I have a friend who went to a private college, when he enlisted in the military his rank was lower than the people who finish college in State Universities.

It's up to you. Once you are enlisted, usually it is hard to go back to school to upgrade because you are going to be busy with work or if you have already a family. Military bases have extension of University School such as University of Texas or University of Maryland, etc. They only offer the basic courses such as: English, Psychology, Advanced Math or some Associate Degree.

If you are still young you have plenty of time and just finish at ASU. It is worth it.

I do not know the specific of the military but if they are ok with University of Phoenix, and any regionally accredited schools, then they should definitely be ok with DeVry.

I would recommend staying at ASU reason being ASU degree is accredited and my understanding DeVry is not accredited. This means for you it could affect your ability to get a commission in the Marines. My advice would be to speak to a Marine recruiter to ask if you transferred to DeVry would their degree be accepted for a commission.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes but here's the REAL truth: stay at ASU. You cannot earn a BA from DeVry and the only way to be an officer in any branch is to have a BA (in anything!). It would basically be a waste of money because the certificate that you would get from DeVry would be useless in the military.

Want a really good reason to stay at ASU? If you graduate and then join the military will pay off your student loans (that's right, pay them off COMPLETELY!!!). That alone should be enough incentive to stick with it.

Also, because I just read the other answers, So What is wrong. They will accept online degrees but, like Terry E said, they have to be an accredited school. I am currently taking classes online from the University of Phoenix but plan on switching to SDSU (San Diego) once I finish my associates. I know your not taking online classes but I wanted to put this info out there so others who are in the same position as you do not take the answer from So What as the truth.
