Will the military cover us when we get out?
|
well i just found out i might have breast cancer, i will be seeing a surgeon within the next couple of days to find out. my question is we are getting out in a year(of the military) and if it turns out i do have breast cancer with the military cover our family? my husband is the one in the military, so i don't think they would cover me. but at the same time the breast cancer could be caused by my husbands job and all the chemicals he carries home with him every day? i am scared out if my mind, if this turns out to be breast cancer i am going to kill my family with medical bills when we get out! if anyone has any insight on this please let me know.

1) your breast cancer will NOT be caused by anything your husband brings home. Breast cancer does not happen that way. Plus if he is bringing home chemicals that is illegal because they are not to be brought home. If you are talking about what he is exposed to at work he will not necessarily be bringing it home, there is just as many chemicals in the water, the air, etc... around you. Plus the whole family would be affected not just you.
2) If you do have cancer while he is in the military your treatments are covered by Tricare. When he gets out you will have the option of extending it possibly by payments made but not guaranteed. You will then need to find your own coverage which can be difficult with prior problems like what you have. |

Listen, I am sorry that you have the possibility of having cancer. However, I HIGHLY DOUBT your husbands job in the military caused this. Cancer such as breast cancer, is primarily genetic, do not blame the military. You do not seem to be thinking clearly on your argument. You are making a very false assumption, and attempting to hold the military at fault.
Also, you will not have any tricare insurance once he is discharged. If you really need the insurance, I suggest he remains in and re enlists. He needs to do what is best for you and your family, and if that requires him to remain AD to retain insurance, than he needs to do that. |

Aw geez..

Have you considered advising your husband on staying in? Sometimes things change in our lives and we have new needs. You should go the route that will keep yourt family covered. I've known friends that wanted nothing more than to get out, but something came up in their lives like a pregnancy or an exceptional family member where they needed to stay in to take care of their family. |

your tricare coverage will end the day he is discharged. you will have to purchase the transitional coverage if you want insurance after he gets out. |

No once he is out you will no longer be covered unless he retires. Why don't you try to relax till you know for sure. |

If he is just getting out then no you will not be covered, he will have VA benifites is all.
Now if he is retiring then the Tri Care benifites that will be paid for out of his retirement check will cover the majority of the bills. My Father retired in 1970 and my Mother died of cancer 5 years ago after fighting it off 3 times and everytime Tri Care paid the benifites she should recive under the Tri Care plan.
If he is just getting out and it turns out that you do have cancer, in my oppinon he should stay in until your treatment is compleat for your finacail well being. Good Luck

People are correct, you won't have coverage. Realize that it may be hard to get insurance with a pre-existing condition. An option is for your husband to go into the Reserves or National Guard, they offer trivare for like $40 for a single and $160 for a family. |
