no. they will not pay for flights to CONUS duty stations. if you flew it would be out of pocket. nor will they pay to transport a car CONUS.

The only way they will ship your car is to an "Overseas" Location...they will move all of your "House Hold Goods" if you want them to within CONUS, but it may take awhile to get them...your best bet is to sell the car, ship your House Hold Goods, and fly...and yes you can fly if you want to...

EDIT: You can put your car on the "Lemon Lot"...if I am not mistaken it is on Dixie Rd near Soldier's Plaza...ask your NCO they will know...also, I would never suggest that you take Advance Pay...never did it, saw to many Soldiers get jack up with it...if you have Government Travel Card already, you can by your tickets and pay for your move an stuff with it, and when you settle at Finance at your Ft Polk, you just have them pay part of your travel on the card to pay it off...but don't go crazy, because if you go over what you get for travel and staying in a hotel until you can get housing, you have to pay the balance...don't forget to ask about your Dislocation Allowance for the stuff you can not ship with your House Hold Goods...

they pay for your move and provide transportation. However because it is only 8 hours away they may not fly you it may a train or gray hound that you are taking but they do not expect you to drive there. My husband went to basic at Ft Benning, GA it is very nice there if you are not the one in infantry basic training that is.lol Good luck In LA. and thank you for serving our country.

No the military will not ship your car from Fort Benning to Fort Polk.

They only ship cars from Port to Port when you are assigned overseas.

Your best bet, would be to rent a pickup truck and a trailer, and haul your car to Fort Polk.

You would lose money doing it, but you would have your car there, without driving it.

No, they do NOT ship vehicles from one duty station to other while in CONUS. You will either need to drive it there, tow it or have it shipped here on your own dime. You will get perdiem, mileage and movers when you PCS.

You will get a TMO appointment and be able to have movers take care of everything as far as the actual moving of your HHG's.

You can NOT use a government CC for PCS purposes. If you choose to fly you and your family from where you are to Polk you will have to pay for it you of pocket although the perdiem and mileage you will get could cover most of it. You will get mileage and DLA in advance of actually moving so you can use that to cover any expenses you have during the move. You will get the rest (settlement) once you get to your duty station and fill out the proper paperwork. .

you have your choice either have the government to move you and your family or move yourself and get paid back. My opinion is to have the government move you. They pack everything and carry everything in for you. Plus if anything s broke you paid back for it. As to the oldmarine: I think your son was using the 2nd Option, Go talk to your Transportation office

Call the TMO office and you should be able to get a TMO move if this is an accompanied duty station. You have an option of a DITY (they will give you money to do it yourself) move or a TMO move. If you chose the TMO move they will send movers to your house and they will literally pack your stuff for you and move it. Then you buy your plane tickets and when you get to your final duty station you submit your expenses for the trips (ie the receipt for the tickets etc) and they should reimburse you. They will however not ship your car. You have to pay to have your car shipped through a civie company. But it shouldn't cost too much.

I think you are mistaken, you will have to move yourself. My son is also at Benning and had to move there from NY at the 10th Mountain Division a few years back, and they had to hire the moving company and they had to drive down!

It is your responsibility to move from one duty station in the states to another. The military can pay you advanced travel pay & will only reimburse you on your travel expenses when you get to your new duty station and go through the Finance Travel Section when you inprocess.
