It may not help but it can't hurt...mine was sent out yesterday! The biggest problem us Americans seem to have is that we honestly believe that the issues are bigger than us...well I believe that the issues are only as big as we allow them to be. When you unit as a community and or a nation you speak a much louder tone and can be heard much further. Good Question & thanks for rattling some answers on the topic! |

What happens to the Iraqi people if these troops don't go? There is a job to done. I don't know if a "surge" is the best way to do it, but I sure don't have a better idea. I'll leave this up to people who actually know what they are talking about.
Its good to see someone actually getting involved though. |

Well your assumption is that more troops will mean more deaths....that the two are proportional.
If you were a jihadi loving Arab, would you and your 20 fellow jihadis start shooting a group of 10 US soldiers*? Probably, you hit some initially and the remaining few may have to retreat. What about 50? Probably not. You'll hit some and they counter attack and kill you.
*If the soldiers are US Marines, no matter what the numbers are, the jihadis will lose and die. |

We must finish that which we started. We can not bring them home just yet! |

You call 21,000 an escalation?
That's pretty wimpy! We've still not reached our peak in the Fellujah days.
I call invading Iran an escalation, and I'm all for it. |

You may save some military lives up front but you will lose far more in the long run if we don't win this war. We need to hit Iran to send a message that we will not tolerate there interference any more. |

On September 11 the U.S. United and bipartisanship was out the door.We went into Afghanistan, defeated the Taliban, and established a democracy that the citizens of Afghanistan voted on.
Then came Iraq. Most other countries agreed with our intelligence that Sadaam was hiding something. He violated UN orders to allow inspectors to investigate. He was warned to either follow international rules or face the consequences several times. He did not.So as a noble nation with approval from congress we went in.(no surprise)
Things went wrong as in all other wars that we have been in.After several years the American people got tired of it.
Instead of debating the issue in a non partisan way, the Democrats started blaming it all on Bush which was expected.
After constant bickering Bush let Rumsfeld go, The generals were changed, and a new direction was put forward all at the request of the Democrats.I recall a good many Dems calling for more troops. They got that. Now they are against it.
Most of them agree we have to win in Iraq.A few far left wing-nuts insist on bailing on the mission.Fine, Opposition is what makes America Great.
Until the Democrats come up with a plan for success we have to go with the best plan we got.If the Presidency was not up for bid in 2008, the dissent among politicians would be far less. The main democratic voices against the war have announced their bid for a run at the White House.Does this surprise any one?
Hillary Clinton is on her way to the middle east to investigate.Great.I believe she is the only level headed Democrat in the race. With Bill being a former President she more than anyone appreciates the stakes involved.I hope she finds a better solution so we can get people home.
If we withdraw before "mission accomplished" Iran will run the territory.Al Qaeda will have a training ground to plot against the Western world.Hezbollah and Hamas with the aid of Iran and Syria will invade Israel.Israel will attack Iran.See the picture...a regional war.
Where will we be? Back in the states. What will happen?
Even more Troops will be sent back over.
This is a "damned if we do,Damned if we don't" situation.
It is very tough to see soldiers and civilians die.Just remember, this was started on us and failure is not an option. |

NO!! I applaud the decision...anyone that would try to stop this, should be considered aiding and abetting the enemy.
If we give them what they need ( Supoort, money equipment ) they will be victorious, then we can bring them home and end the killing, Quitting is not an option.
Write your Senators & Congressmen to give the troops the stuff they need to do the job and that job is WIN. |

Too late a lot of them were deployed today! |

Yes, I will write my senators, but I will not write a message you like. I think we need to escalate the number of troops, or send a surge. |

I sure won't. I proudly raised my right hand vowed to serve and protect my country. If that's what I'm called to do, then I'll do it. |

NO - I'm making a difference as I pack my ruck for my third tour! Looking forward to it too! - WTF are you trying to do??? |

I feel that our troops already in Iraq need some back-up.
Thanks. I will let my senator know that I think sending more troops is a great idea. |

i've written my senators and the white house all three. sorry to say though, i told them i approve. it's better than doing nothing or surrendering.

since 2003, the US troop level in Iraq at any time has fluctuated between 108,00 and 160,000. Units move in and move out all the time. This "escalation" of 20,000 will still have troop levels below the normal rotational highs. |

No. We need these additional troops so we can win in Iraq. Did you NOT listen to your president last week! |

I waited to respond. It looks like your popular opinion is running about twenty to one, against. You're out of step with the silent majority of Americans who think dumb @ss liberals should be seen but not heard. Crawl under a rock for a year or two. You can come back out when you have gained some wisdom! |

it can't be stopped. This war, like all others, is about access to a resource that enables our lifestyles. If you want to make change, think about what you can give up first. |

The only people who can stop this 'surge' of troops are the troops themselves. And the only way they can do that is to lay down arms. And if they did I would consider them heroes.
(Oh What? the US will put them all in jail? I doubt that.)
Again, the only ones who can stop this are the troops themselves. |

I'm sure your Senator will write your name and how you feel on a little sticky note and carry it with them next time they sit down to vote on something important.
Your vote doesn't count. Welcome to the US. |

It will make no difference. The troops will be sent, Bush has the authority and any attempt to limit his authority is months away. The troops will be sent. |

i already have, for all the good it will do.
what we're talking about is really only 16% but it's symbolic and a push to see what he can get away with.
arthur m, above talks like we're sending five times as many as already there. not so. instead of those 10 there will now be 11.6. that's not enough to do anything differently. |
