With all the prisons being over crowded would it not be an idea to send them to fight in afghanistan?

Going into a combat situation takes a lot of trust in your fellow soldiers. How would you feel if your son was sent into a combat zone with, thieves drug dealers, and other criminal types whose outlook on life is to cover their own *** and f**k the other guy. Our military whups butt because they are a DEDICATED, PROFESSIONAL, VOLUNTEER force.

Start shoving a bunch of disenfranchised, dishonest, lazy, unprofessional dirtbags into the ranks and I can absolutely guarantee we would fail in every endevour. It would be completely impossible to maintain any sort of discipline, morale, small-unit cohesion, or any other element needed to ensure proper military operation.

People are in prison because they have trouble relating to authority and lack of discipline in their lives. The military is all about authority and discipline. I think your heart is in the right place, but this is not a good idea.

No because the military is not for everyone. If you were over in the desert fighting would you feel comfortable if the only person watching your back was a guy from prison that could care less about America or whether he lives or die. I know I wouldnt

I don't know about putting them in the Army but if the prisons are full, we have a lot of warships ready for disposal that could be used as accommodation. Anchor them out and guards could drop food onto their flight decks once a day.

Volunteer army - beats conscripted army hands down.

Prisoners have problems - mental illness, personality disorder, illiteracy, epilepsy , diabetes and other disorders, substance misuse problems. How would you expect such people to fight a war?

Watching tv at our expenses - what about the workshops where prisoners work? this is to help fund their care - to subsidise the tax payer.

People get an education to help with their rehabilitation. They get medical care to help with their rehabilitation, they get support to detox from drugs and alcohol - all to help with rehabilitation.

Prisons are for REHABILITATION not for punishment. Punishment is being separated from your partner and family and losing your freedom. Once that has happened the stay in prison is for REHABILITATION.

The military is made up of people who support their country and the Queen and are skilled soldiers who serve their fellow citizens and are prepared to die if necessary to preserve the way of life which we enjoy. They cannot be forced to do this they do it VOLUNTARILY.

Some people belong in Prison, that's the best place for them.
Having said that we should suspend the Human rights Bill, immediately release all Foreign Nationals held in UK Prisons and Deport them in order to alleviate the current dilemma with overcrowding ( Never mind spending obscene amounts of Money paying them to leave ) But no instead our idiotic Government is going to down grade prisoners and transfer them to Open ( the gate ) Prisons. Nice

That is a wonderful question!! I opted just to kill them and our tax dollars will pay the electric bill (much cheaper). but I like your idea too. except we probably couldn't give them guns. they aren't very trustworthy.
I actually like my idea better. but yours was worth a shot!!!

I think it should depend on what level of criminal they are...you could not trust them really...if you know what I mean!!!
