Without the use of nuclear or atomic weapons, allies, or any 3rd party, who do you think would win an all out war, Russia or the Unites States? And why do you think so?

Were talking about Russia, not the vast Soviet Union as many remember it.

For some people that still dont get it...

I know there are numerous factors, this is why I remove the largest ones. No atomic weapons, no allies, and no third parties.

This is a HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION. Are some really that slow?

This questions regards military skill, might, manpower and technology only.

If the war was left up to the military and not the so called CIC, then the USA would make short work of Russia. The War would last no more than 3 months. If Mr Obama sticks his nose in it we still might win but it will take 3 years and cost millions more lives.

Depends on the theater of war, and the goals.

If either country invaded the other to take it over, they'd fail. Both countries are too large and too populated to control.

If the goal was to take take out the leadership and/or the other's ability to make war, the US could win.

These questions are always so... pointless.

Why would the US and Russia be at war? And why would they not use their best weapons? And why would their allies not be in the fight?

You can't just do "versus matches" between countries, there are too many factors.

And quite frankly, I doubt either would win. Invading Russia is suicide. And it's not like Russia can mount a full invasion of the US at present.

Well it really depends. If the United States reacted quick enough to have its forces in Russia, which is the most likely situation since they are the quickest military, than they would definetely lose. Russia has a very stong nation and there military training is most likely better than the United States. They also have the will power to win wars were as the United States doesn't. The United States does have way better technology though.

It impossible for there to be a war between them without third parties. Russia has a lot of newer rockets, more tanks, biggest submarines, winter, and good plains. We have the best army. On Russia's turf, they win, On USA's turf we win.

You can't realistically say we would make short work of them because we haven't made short work of Iraq or Afghanistan. And Russia's army and guerilla warfare is a lot better. Too close to call.

We would destroy them. It's not even close in terms of military might. However it's who would back us and who would back them and are we still stretched out from afgan and iraq.
