The public perception of women is that they are too weak physically and too gentle to go to war. By nature they require male protection. However, women were actually filling roles and doing jobs that contradicted that perspective of women. So people were pretending women didn't to the job: why?

I was in the Army and I did not get mistreated at all. Of course, some men were skeptical of me. I just did my job, didn't whine and complain every 5 seconds, proved that I could pull my weight.... and I gained respect.
Being in the Army, I noticed many women who did the least amount of work possible and would rather just sit on their butts all day doing office jobs. These were the type of women who would get knocked up by random guys just to get out of deployments...these girls give female soldiers a bad name. |

Because people don't want to see us (women) in that role. The US has come forward in many strides, accepting women in that kind of role...not something they are ready yet. I am in the military, in a very male dominated career field. When I joined the unit, I was the only female. There were issues at first, but not they realize I can do the job just the same. Not everyone in the world is that forward thinking. Not to mention, women in many other countries are second, or sometimes third class citizens. To show how capable women are in this country, could create more issuse overseas. Just my opinion... |
