I'll be a Senior in August and starting to look into the Military (Marines) and really don't want to deal with college now.

I think a 3 - 4 year hitch in one of the services is good for 90% of the population. |

The military is a good place to learn more about yourself, give you money for college when you do want to deal with it. The military isn't for everyone, but if you are Truly interested, go for it. |

Talk to a recruiter. It's a place to live, experience, and you can go to college. It's not a dumb idea but you'll have to want to do it. |

I joined after a few years of life experience of living on my own and having a civilian job. for me personally, it was best for me to wait because now that my time in the army is almost up, i have college credits to fall back on and i know what to expect when i join the civilian world again. some people freak out when all they've known as an adult is the military life. my husband joined right out of high school. he has progressed in his career quickly and plans to be a lifer, meaning he could retire at 38. for him it was the right choice because he enjoys his job, has the opportunity to change careers every time he is up for reenlistment, and has a guaranteed paycheck, roof over his family's head, and food on the table. life in the military can be rough though and deployments are a great test of character. do your research before seeing a recruiter. ask another question on yahoo!answers about the life style of a marine. |

If you have the opportunity to go to college, I say go and look into ROTC to become an officer. Due to limitations you can't or struggle to get into college then the military is a great option. Tuition assistance while you're in and the GI Bill will give you an opportunity to get a degree if you find yourself wanting to get out later on. |

There's absolutely nothing wrong with joining the military, just as long as you realize:
A) the recruiter lies so speak to several who are not only in already, but those who already got out.
B) once you sign up you no longer belong to yourself and are at the disposition of the US Government to be sent anywhere & everywhere to do anything from refugee help to life-threatening war.
It seems obvious but you'd be amazed how many join & never figured they might actually have to do something dangerous for those benefits! |

Marine Corps is awesome. It isn't for everyone though. The Corps can help you pay for college as well. Good luck. |
