Would it serve our country well if every male went through a boot camp prior to high school?

Additional Details
I said a boot camp, a form of boot camp.

I would say a boot camp could be a good option for any child that has only a single parent. Nearly 6 of 10 children living with only their mother were near or below the poverty line.

http://www.2010census.biz/prod/3/97pubs/cb-9701.pdf

In mother-only families, children tend to experience short-and long-term economic and psychological disadvantages; higher absentee rates at school, lower levels of education, and higher dropout rates (with boys more negatively affected than girls); and more delinquent activity, including alcohol and drug addiction.

No, it would serve our country well if parents began raising their kids themselves and got the government the hell out of the equation.

I have no idea. I do think our schools do a poor job of preparing grads for the real world.

There was a recent article about college students who think they should get a B for SHOWING UP. Ugh.

Honestly
what if every immigrant had to serve in the military for 2 years to prove their allegiance to the country? what if every illegal immigrant had to go into the service to get citizenship granted there would be certain restrictions but it can be done... how lovely would it be if everyone spoke english?

The military has its own share of screwups, but my opinion is everyone can benefit from a couple of years in the military.

Certainly not just males.

Did you know that many kids in China do just this (or they did 15 years ago)? In fact, females do it, too.

I think there is the potential to helps kids learn discipline that would benefit other areas of their lives.

True American
yes, it would teach all those little **** heads that i went to school with some discipline and respect.

No

But kids learning things like failure, earning what you want, how much people do not really care about how popular you were, and people only care about what have you done for me lately, before they enter the world on their own would be a good thing!

Kids prior to high school are not mentally or physically equipped for boot, even if the idea was a viable one.

What we need is a limited draft!

Why not just tell the schools to put Recess and PE back in the schools.

I don't think so, I think most kids, males and females are not mature enough that young for it to be effective.

Negative.

No because it would cause more protest and revolt than the Iraq War.

It's not for everyone and doesn't work for anyone. This country wouldn't stand for it anyways.

tehabwa
Uh, no.

What in heaven's name makes you ask?

That means what they would only be early teens maybe what 13 years old. That would be really bad to let them handle weapons.

No...Boot camp is getting someone ready for war, that's the last mind set you need in a High school

You would end up with a bunch of kinds indoctrinated to follow orders.

Basically, sheep. Adults choosing to go to boot camp is one thing, but forcing 14 year olds to do it is unethical. You would end up with extremely high percentage of people joining the military... when we already have the largest standing army on earth, and spend more than every country *combined*.

Forcing kids to become soldiers would discourage them from learning other skills as well. There goes any chance at curing cancer and developing technologies.

No offense to people in the military, they are doing a noble thing. But they chose to do it.
