If they were under direct orders they would have to or risk court martial.
The Kent State thing was National Guard not regular army.
Under the law of the Constitution it is illegal to have a standing army on U.S. soil act against the population, but it was done between 1861 and 1864, and I think it will be done again.

Most likely. It's in the oath, "against all enemies, foreign and domestic." Even though the constitution specifically forbids the army acting against citizens. It's done so before, and it would do it again, because all soldiers take that oath. Only the smart ones would challenge the oath as unconstitutional, which it is. It should be changed.

War Veterans who protested in Washington because they did not recieve their pay were fired upon and some were killed by the US military. This has happened twice in our history, shortly after the Revolutionary War, and in 1932 with WW1 veterans.

When you swear into the service you take an oath to protect from enemies "both foreign and domestic" so to answer this, yes, but only if the US Government called for it... It would have to be a National State of Emergency type situation, or a riot. Anything that got so out of hand the police could not handle it on it's own. God forbid this should ever happen.

I would like to think that if the government called upon the military to quell an uprising of U.S citizens that they would not fire. I suppose it depends on the reason for the rebellion and how much blind faith the soldiers have in their leaders.

I would prefer to think they wouldn't yet the Ohio National Guard did fire on students during a Viet Nam protest (some were killed) at Kent State University in the 70s. I would say it all depends upon how the government presents the case to the military and whether the soldiers buy into it.
