Yes, it is a disqualifier from military service. See AR 40-501, Standards of Medical Fitness which I have outlined at the link below. You need to remember that there is no "Diet control" in the military and you will eat what is available, especially in the field. There isn't the time or resources to constantly make a special meal three times a day for someone with diabetes.

Chapter 2
Physical Standards for Enlistment, Appointment, and Induction

2–8. Endocrine and metabolic disorders

b. Current or history of diabetes mellitus (250) is disqualifying.

EDIT: It does not matter if you have been cleared or not by a random civilian doctor. The only opinion that counts is that of the doctor at MEPS and he will not clear you. Any history of diabetes is disqualifying. Your only chance would be to apply and see if they will grant you a waiver, but I can tell you now that you will not get one. Even when the Army was granting a lot of waivers, they would not grant many for medical reasons such as this, and now that waivers have all but dried up, your chances have gone to none.

EDIT 2: Here is the thing about it. You can join and lie about it all you want. More than likely they will not find out and you will be allowed to go to BCT. Now ask yourself this. What happens when you stop getting your "special meals" and start having reactions to your condition because of it and the extreme change in environment with all that stress? What happens when you start having a meltdown and eventualy have to be hospitalized? This is when medical issues usually comes to light and when many people are kicked out and sometimes imprisoned for falsifying a government document.

Starting off a military career by lying, when one of the Army Values is integrity, is no way to go. Trust me when I tell you that those rules and regulations are there for a purpose. By joining when you know you have a condition puts yourself as well as those relying on you in serious danger, both now and later on.

How would your diabetes react to MRE's, eating sporadically, and lack of sleep?

Not my call (or yours - that kind of decision is someone's job - give them the information) but I'd guess that would be a problem.
