Would you be proud of me, if there was a draft instituted, for refusing to fight in Iraq?
Find answers to your legal question.

Would you be proud of me, if there was a draft instituted, for refusing to fight in Iraq?

Should i put myself up to die because an idiot like Bush is in office?

You should put yourself up because you receive the freedoms that other servicemen and women have fought for. You want the freedom to make stupid statements, but when the time comes, do not have the balls to keep that freedom.

Uh, no, I would not... and I think YOU'RE the idiot for saying that. Be a man!

I'd be proud of you if you went to fight, if you left the country, if you went to jail for what you believed, or if you declared yourself a conscientious objector and worked for the Peace Corps or something instead.

I would only lose my respect for you if you weaseled your way out of the draft with a college, medical, or psychological exemption.

You would never consider yourself a man. You would never have any pride or honor.
And you would never really have any friends, or people who trusted you.

Well the neighbours would not be calling you "big dave" anymore.. you would be called shitty little coward dave!!!
But if i was a muslim i would be very proud of you!!!

No I would not be proud of you. My first act would be to throw you
out in the street and tell you not to ever come back because you
are a disgusting piece of dog crap. I do not ever want to see or
talk to you again.
Is that what you want to hear? And remember, you heard it here
first.

Unless you have a legitimate reason, then you are a gutless coward who does not deserve the protection of the country in which you inhabit. A country by the way, is protected by men and women who ARE willing to fight for their rights and freedoms. If you are not, then live somewhere else. If you can't take a dump, get off the pot.

Georgie's Girl
Have you noticed the differences in answers from Brits and Yanks. Interesting huh.
2 british ex soldiers and a couple of others saying that you're entitled to your opinion and to believe what you believe and leave the job to those who want to do it.

The Americans are automatically assuming you're American (you mentioned Bush see) and telling you if you're not prepared to beat the s.hit out of whoever the government tells you to then you're not welcome in their country, as you must be a coward rather than objector.

And yet they still insist they're not a Nation of gung- ho morons with itchy trigger fingers. No of course they're not!!!!

There will never be a draft, we have enough BRAVE AMERICAN VOLUTEERS, so you may keep your scared, unproud, government bashing fat a.s.s planted right there in your chair while you chew up the 1st amendment on yahoo answers thanks to those of us whom have served and continue to serve for your rights to do so. .....enjoy nancy boy, enjoy

If you support democracy in your country then by that very token you must respect the wishes of your chosen leader.
If you do not , then you are defeating the wholepoint of democracy, which is not something you can switch on and off when you see fit.
If an army is at full strength ,it will be more likely to succeed and with less casualties than the one at half strength.
In this way, refusing to fight can be considered to be jeopordising the lives of your fellow countrymen.
Your vote is the only way out. That is why it is so important that we use our vote.
Anyone could feign consciencous objection as a reason to avoid the draft.

Im afraid that you must bite the bullet(excuse the pun)
On a personal note, not everyone thinks that bush is an idiot, there are many people who respect his objectives and the will to carry them out unwaveringly.

Sounds as though you would be a concientious objector. If you are, you can still be sent to Iraq, but in a job where you are a non combatant.

Hilts
If you object to the war, on whatever basis, then you should do what you feel is the right thing to do!
being a conscientious objector is not demeaning!
it would be interesting to find out , out of those that refer to you as a "Yella Fella" "Coward" Etc, how many of those have served their country in some war or other?

And Before you all start on me! Yes I have served my Country, UK. Yes I have seen Active service, Yes I was wounded twice!
And yes I have medals and commendations!
So don't be so quick to judge!
This is an illlegal war, in anyones books!

I am not proud of cowards. Nor am I proud of ignorant fools who know nothing about our president and war. Do a little research and stop the ignorance. Knowledge is power.

First of all, if you got drafted, you wouldn't be putting yourself up to die. That's contradictory.

Secondly, NO. I would not be proud of you. If you enjoy having the freedom to slam the government in this country, you should be willing to fight for that right.

I wouldn't be proud of ppl in this country who take all of it's advantages, but aren't willing to fight for it. If you don't care enough about this nation, to take up arms against her enemies then get out and join the enemy..that's all you are.

No, I wouldn't be proud of you at all. You wouldn't be fighting because "Bush is in office," you'd be fighting to protect the rights of all Americans. I don't agree with how the war started but something did have to be done.

P.S. To all the people saying that those of us who have never served shouldn't be answering this question: If I was drafted I wouldn't run the other way. I wouldn't VOLUNTEER to go to war, I am a wife and mother, but if it took me fighting to save this country for my children you can bet your a** that I would go. Just because I don't agree with HOW this war started, and what we were told about it, doesn't mean that I don't have respect for and that I don't support our troops. Furthermore, if we hadn't fought back after 9/11 this war still would have happened but it would have been in my backyard and while I DON'T want anymore people to die, I would rather have it be on someone elses soil.

Anyone who is not willing to fight for the rights of the people in this country doesn't deserve to HAVE those rights!

How many of the people answering here are either miltary or ex-military?

If you've never served for your country then you have no understanding of the question.

As a ex-British Army Infantry Officer and veteran of Northern Ireland and Iraq I can tell you that when a country resorts to conscripting (i.e. drafting) soldiers in an offensive war then you have every right to refuse the draft as someone roped into fighting for something he doesn't believe in makes a sh*t soldier anyway. If you don't believe me look at the conduct of American troops in Vietnam, Iraqi conscripts in both wars, Russian troops in WW2, etc.

So to answer your question in an offensive conflict I wouldn't be proud or ashamed of you for refusing to fight. However in a defensive war those who refuse to fight are to put it bluntly cowards and undeserving of the rights of citizenship.
