The military can be a great way to get new skills while serving your country. There are many opportunities that are only available to Vets. Your height and weight will not be an issue. I think what you need to consider is "why" you want to serve and "what" you hope to achieve as a result. Its completely normal for young adults to have no specific direction in a career or not to know what they want to do with their life even if they are holding a good job. Its takes time and some effort to figure these things out. As long as you have a plan and have done your "due diligence" you should do what you want.

yes, and volunteer for front lines. you know what you could do? mine sweeper. they'll give you a stick, you check for mines.

If you want to go for it...The navy wasn't to bad... drank lots of beer and seen the world..

Patches
Yes, that would help you in your life as you will be helping others. I know you havenot joined yet but I do want to Thank you just in case you decide to go for it. You sound like a decent special person. Good luck!!

The physical challenges may be tough both because of your size and age. However, I have a family friend who is about the same size, although about 6 years younger. She's in the Marines in Iraq right now.

wickedmoodmeister
I guess it all depends on your situation. I joined the Army at 25, put in 6 years travelling around the globe. When I joined I didn't have college degrees for a good career and I was stuck in a small town. I'm out now and getting ready for college with over $40,000 using the G.I Bill. Looking back now that I'm out I would say it was the best thing I could've done. You have to follow the rules and try not to take things personally. Any armed forces have a system with strict rules. If I had a choice about which one to join 6 years ago I would've definately chose the Air Force. I worked side by side with all the armed forces and the Air Force has all the money. People in the Air Force are well taken care of......even in the middle of no-where during the war....
GOOD LUCK ...if you do take the leap!!!

Pancha that is something you should be talking about with your family--this needs to be something you need to decide.....your size and age shouldn't play the factor...this is a huge decision..

If you don't mind being told what to do every day. Never mind the uniform thing or being shot at go for it!

shocktrooper342003
Well hell yes you should join. Why not? Just because of your size? Dont let that stop you. Your age is good, and your height and weight are proportionate. You sound pretty tough, too. If you want to do it, then do it. You won't regret it, despite all thats going on now.

My dear PANCHA:

First , let me state that I am a veteran...

But before I could advise you on such a decision, I must ask: Why are you considering such a move?

If you truly want my advice, please e-mail me; I'll be glad to answer any questions you have, if I can...(it's more important to me than any 10 points I would have a chance at, and I think you know that).

Have a good night...:-)

Only if after thurough research you decide it is right for you & you're drawn to it for the right reasons (think of stuff like college money as a bonus, not a reason). There are great life changing opportunities that'll really benefit you, and it doesn't matter at all that you're a female or your size.

Absolutely. It is a great learning and growth experience. I did it and my son is now doing it.

If you want to try a career, this is a great opportunity and don't forget the GI bill when you get out. Plus the military will pay for you to attend classes while you are in the service as well.

gokart121
The service is no joke, and it can be dangerous, but it's also a good challenge to learn more and gain experiences. There's some good books out there that'll tell you more about the service, read those before u commit to joining, too.

My gran daughter is a Marines and right now is in Iraq, while her husband is in Afghanistan. She is now 20 years old, small frame, 5.2", 115 lbs. She was tough when she joined the Marines 2 years ago and graduated from Boot Camp with honors....now she is tougher....

It is your choice, but if you do join, join the Air Force if possible. I know people in the Army, Navy and Air Force and the Air Force people seem the happiest with their choice.

Yes. It would be a good idea. No matter what size you are. There are alot of oppurtunities in the military. Thats something you shouldnt pass up. While you are still young enough to get in.
