There are a number of reasons. These are general and are not to imply every homeless person has these traits:
1. Age- Many homeless are over the maximum enlistment age
2. Drugs- Many homeless are addicted to street drugs
3. Physical and Mental issues- Many suffer from mental diseases or are on disablity due to physical limitations
Remember: While not all homeless people want or choose to be homeless, some do. I have contact with many of them every day and can say that many revel in the challenge of life without a home or job. |

a lot of them are addicts of some kind, which means they can't join the armed forces. a lot of them are have prior felonies, which means they can't join the armed forces. a lot of them are too old to join the armed forces (46 is the cut off i think). And how many of them do you think could pass the ASVABE? |

Alot of homeless people are uneducated and also most are drug users. Though I guess I was a exception to that because I was homeless before I joined. I actually lived under a bridge. Good times!!! |

About 20 years ago all the mental institutions were over full so they picked the people that weren't "as" crazy and released them into our streets so most of them even if they wanted to wont get in because they have mental problems. Some have physical disabilities. Some don't want the governments control over them. But other are just very lazy. |

Apart from drug addictions there are a number of homeless people who are mentally ill. Even in places where the state pays for good housing and food they still prefer to live on the streets. They need help, rather than being judged. They are not well enough to be in the military |

I saw some documentery about some guy giving a homeless man $100,000 and job offers and stuff, what he did was he spent all the money, rejected the job offers, and now he is back living on the streets. |

Quite a few of the homeless in our country are those with mental instabilities, who because of those instabilities cannot be accepted into military service. These are people who have fallen through the cracks of our health system. There are also alot of older americans that are homeless who because of age would not be accepted. Not to mention those on who are on drugs. Sadly there are so few who would be able to join the service but even then with the current war so few would be willing to serve. |

If you try to classify the homeless in America, you will find a large percentage of them have already signed up and served the country.
And, yes, some of us do have mental problems. Why don't you kill people and watch your friends die and see what happens to you?

It is my belief that the majority of homeless people are homeless because they want it that way. they bum money,buy drugs and have no responsibilities. what a life. They could go and find work,but don't. So i do not feel sorry for them at all. They choose what they want to do. |
