I was just wondering if someone who joins the military can become an officer without a 4 year degree? is it possible? is in really hard without a 4 year degree? or is it not possible at all?

Mrsjvb is correct...the rest not. You can become an officer (commissioned or warrant) in the Navy without a degree. It's called Limited Duty Officer (LDO) as a general rule it takes a minimum of 8 years to do so and you have to be advance in rank. Many people go this route. I know quite a few that don't have degrees, but it does make you more competitive if you do. However, if you think that that's an easy way to become an officer, then think again. It's actually more difficult to obtain a commission that way than any other way, as they are much more selective and there are not nearly as many billets (jobs) for them. |

the only way is rising through the ranks to become a Warrant Officer( or in the Navy: Limited Duty Officer). techncially neither require a degree. for all intents and purposes, someone without a degree is less competetive than someone with a degree, all other factors being equal( evals, etc).
hell at one point they wanted to make a 2 year degree mandatory to make E7 in the Navy.. |
